About the Role
Apex Companies is seeking an Environmental Engineer to join our team in Manassas, VA. This is a hands-on, field-focused opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems in the field, and supporting a diverse range of environmental projects.
The position offers exposure to a broad range of environmental services, including groundwater monitoring, environmental sampling, stormwater inspections, remediation systems, and emergency response. Approximately 80% of the position will be field-based, with the remaining time spent supporting project documentation, data evaluation, and other technical activities.
What You'll Do
- Conduct groundwater monitoring and evaluate groundwater data.
- Perform multi-media environmental sampling, including soil, groundwater, surface water, and air.
- Conduct field testing and document sample collection and field conditions.
- Support environmental investigations and remediation projects.
- Perform operation and maintenance activities for remediation systems.
- Conduct stormwater and erosion and sediment control inspections.
- Support environmental compliance and field activities for utilities, municipalities, petroleum clients, private developers, and other customers.
- Participate in emergency response activities for select clients.
- Assist with data evaluation, reporting, and other technical project deliverables.
- Utilize GIS and CAD tools to support environmental projects when applicable.
- Travel throughout Northern and Central Virginia and occasionally to other locations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- Relevant environmental consulting, field, or related experience preferred.
- Ability to perform field work in a variety of weather and environmental conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document field activities and data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as as part of a project team.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.
- Ability to obtain and maintain HAZWOPER certification.
- Experience with groundwater modeling, GIS, or CAD is a plus.
What You'll Gain
This position provides the opportunity to build a broad environmental skill set while working on projects for a diverse group of clients. Rather than being limited to one type of project, you'll gain hands-on experience across groundwater, sampling, remediation, stormwater, environmental compliance, and emergency response.
Travel & Schedule
- Primarily field-based throughout Northern and Central Virginia.
- Some overnight travel, approximately once per quarter.
- Expected to work in the office or field five days per week.
- Apex maintains a fleet of company vehicles; occasional use of a personal vehicle may be required.
