Principal Scientist - Analytical Development
Role Summary
We are seeking a Principal Scientist, Analytical Development. This newly created position is a highly collaborative leadership and technical position based in our Research and Development lab in Boston. You will manage technical and operational aspects of Analytical Development activities in the lab supporting Apogee’s monoclonal antibody pipeline. These activities include non-GMP analytical characterization, method development, and R&D sample testing. In this role you will be an important member of the Tech Ops team, managing multiple activities in parallel at various stages of drug development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of laboratory scientists, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure high performance and professional growth.
- Design, develop, and implement analytical methods for the testing and characterization of monoclonal antibody projects, working internally or with contracted partners.
- Design and execute experiments to support upstream/downstream process development, formulation studies, product characterization and comparability studies.
- Oversee the daily operations of the analytical development laboratory, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process development and R&D, to support project goals and timelines.
- Analyze and interpret complex data sets, providing clear and actionable insights and recommendations.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate findings and progress to stakeholders.
- Stay current with industry trends, advancements to continuously improve laboratory practices and methodologies.
Ideal Candidate
- PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field, with a minimum of 7 years of relevant industry experience in an analytical development role.
- Proven experience in leading and managing a team of scientists in a laboratory setting,
- Large molecule and protein characterization experience is required.
- Extensive knowledge in several analytical techniques such as H/UPLC (SEC, RP, HILIC, IEX), electrophoresis (CE-SDS, icIEF), spectrophotometry, ELISAs, and cell-based bioassays.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to design and conduct complex experiments.
- Experience in Empower, Chemstation, Softmax software is desired.
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to collaborate effectively across functional lines.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and guidelines (e.g., FDA, ICH) related to analytical development.

- Ability and willingness to travel up to eight times a year for company-wide meetings as well as Tech Ops team meetings.
- This on-site position requires a minimum of 4 days per week on site at our lab in Boston (Seaport area)
The anticipated salary range for candidates for this role will be $185,000-$200,000/year. The final salary offered will depend on several factors, which may include, but is not limited to relevant years of experience, educational background, and geography.
