Manager, Application Engineering

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and develop our growing Business Technology team in Chennai, India. In this role, you will be a dedicated people leader, responsible for mentoring a multi-disciplinary team of developers, quality engineers, and production support engineers. Your primary focus will be on growing our local talent and fostering a strong engineering culture, ensuring your team thrives while building the AI-powered Appian applications that run our global business.
What you’ll do

Lead & Mentor: Directly manage and support a diverse team, driving their career development through coaching, feedback, and performance management.

Foster Culture: Serve as the local leader for the team, building a positive, collaborative, and high-performing engineering culture in the Chennai office.

Drive Execution: Oversee the team's day-to-day operations, remove impediments, and ensure they deliver high-quality work in partnership with global product and engineering leaders.

Grow the Team: Partner with recruiting to attract, hire, and onboard top engineering talent in India.

Serve as HR Manager: Act as the primary management and HR point of contact for your team members, guiding them in their professional journey at Appian.
What we’re looking for

B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical field.

5+ years of experience in the software industry, with 2+ years in a direct people management role.

Proven experience leading and mentoring diverse technical teams (e.g., development, QA, and/or application support).

Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills with a passion for developing people.

A solid technical foundation; experience with low-code/BPM platforms, APIs, and relational databases is a plus.
