About Gist
Gist is a new consumer social app built by AppLovin, a handbook for the curious. We’re building our brand and community from the ground up, and we’re looking for a Social Media Manager who is as comfortable creating content as they are reading the data behind it.
In this role, you’ll own Gist’s voice and presence across social. You’ll create, test, and iterate on content that is genuinely useful and worth sharing, and you’ll stay close to the metrics that tell you what’s working.

About the Role
We are launching a new social platform dedicated to the relatable, actionable content that people use to navigate their daily lives.
We are looking for a Social Media Manager to be the face and voice of Gist across the platforms where our audience already lives: Instagram, TikTok, Threads, Substack, and whatever comes next.
This is a builder role. We want someone who has grown an audience from zero, knows what makes content travel on each platform, and move faster than anyone around them.
You will own our social channels end to end and be the reason people discover Gist before they ever download it.

A Day in the Life

  • Own social strategy and execution across Instagram, TikTok, Threads, Substack, and emerging platforms.
  • Create platform-native content, including short-form video, posts, and written pieces, in a distinct Gist voice.
  • Work with agencies, individual content creators, and influencers, including our own Gist creators, to produce posts and feature them in our content.
  • Grow our audience and engagement through fast experimentation: test formats and hooks, study what lands, and double down.
  • Partner with performance marketing so social supports the broader growth funnel.
  • Track and report on audience growth, engagement, and content performance to shape what we make next.
  • Spot trends and cultural moments early, and know which ones are worth jumping on.

The Impact You’ll Make

  • Define how Gist looks, sounds, and feels in public from launch.
  • Build an owned audience across platforms that becomes a durable growth channel for the product.
  • Establish repeatable content playbooks and formats that scale as the team and the platform grow.
  • Bring ground-level insight on what resonates with our audience directly into product and brand decisions.

Who You Are

  • 2-3+ years of experience in social media, content, or community growth.
  • A proven history of growing an account or channel from the ground up to a significant, engaged audience. You can show us the results and walk us through how you did it.
  • Fluent with AI tools, with a clear point of view on how to use them to create better content faster.
  • Strong writing, visual, and editing instincts, with a portfolio of content you made yourself.
  • Comfortable creating across formats and platforms, from Instagram and TikTok video to Threads and Substack writing.
  • Self-directed and fast-moving, and at home in an ambiguous, early-stage environment.
  • Experience working with or inside a larger organization while owning your channels with startup-level autonomy.

Nice to Have

  • Experience as a UGC creator or content creator yourself.
  • Experience as a brand marketer at other startups.
  • Experience writing, growing, or running a Substack.
  • Familiarity with lifestyle feed content dynamics: what drives daily engagement, retention, and shareability.

Why Join This Venture

  • This is more than a social role. It’s a chance to build the public identity of a new consumer product inside an industry leader.
  • Enjoy the autonomy of a startup, backed by AppLovin’s resources, technology, and scale.
  • Work with a lean, fast-moving team that values creativity, speed, and good taste.
  • High visibility into how brand and content drive product growth, with a direct line to leadership from day one.
