Appodeal is looking for a Head of Development to lead the full technical direction of our mobile gaming business unit.

You will own the engineering stack behind our portfolio of games—including WordMaker, Solitaire, and Brick Blast—ensuring high development velocity, strong code quality, and scalable architecture across client, backend, and internal tools.

This is a hands-on leadership role, combining deep technical ownership with team leadership and close collaboration with product, monetization, data, and UA teams to build and scale successful mobile games

Technical Leadership & Architecture

Own and evolve the full technical architecture across game clients (Unity), backend systems, and internal tools.
Define and enforce engineering standards, development workflows, and best practices across the organization.
Ensure scalability, reliability, and performance of all systems supporting the games portfolio.

Hands-On Development

Actively contribute to the codebase and core systems development.
Lead by example through high-quality engineering and problem-solving.
Participate in debugging, optimization, and solving complex technical challenges.

Team Leadership & Organization

Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing development team (including Unity engineers and backend developers).
Grow engineers into independent, high-impact contributors and tech leads.
Establish efficient processes that enable rapid experimentation and iteration.
Foster strong collaboration between engineering, product, data, UA, and monetization teams.

AI & Development Automation

Drive adoption of AI-assisted development workflows (e.g., Copilot, GPT-based tooling).
Identify and implement opportunities for automation across development, testing, and release processes.
Continuously improve development velocity through tooling, AI, and process optimization.

Technical Delivery & Experimentation

Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of features, experiments, and technical initiatives.
Enable fast hypothesis testing and iteration cycles within product teams.
Partner with product and data teams to build scalable systems for experimentation, analytics, and performance tracking

Requirements

Experience

8+ years of software engineering experience, including leadership roles.
Proven experience leading engineering teams in mobile gaming or mobile product environments.
Strong ability to combine technical leadership with hands-on coding.
Experience working in data-driven environments with frequent experimentation cycles.

Technical Skills

Strong expertise in Unity (C#) and mobile game architecture.
Solid understanding of scalable backend systems, performance optimization, and client-server architecture.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release processes (e.g., Unity Cloud Build, GitHub Actions).
Familiarity with analytics integrations and telemetry systems.
Experience or strong interest in applying AI tools to development workflows.

Leadership & Mindset

Strong collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical teams.

Nice to Have

Experience with mobile game monetization systems (ads, IAP).
Background in building lean, high-velocity teams.
Familiarity with tools like Firebase, GameAnalytics, Amplitude.
