Senior Software Engineer

Aquia is hiring a Senior to Principal level Backend Software Engineer to help modernize legacy systems for a large State Agency. This role requires U.S. citizenship, and candidates will be subject to a background investigation.

What you'll do

  • Working with fellow engineers to design, review, and build well-crafted software.
  • Collaborating with government partners and other contractors to architect, implement, and deploy new systems and improvements to existing systems.
  • Participate in Scrum-based agile manner to efficiently ship new features.
  • Creating tools and processes to automate our development, testing, and production workflows.
  • Writing and reviewing technical documentation, and performing code reviews.
  • Participating in an on-call rotation to support production systems and investigate issues when they occur.
  • Taking part in hiring activities (conducting interviews, and attending interview debriefs), as needed.


What we're looking for

  • At least 7-15 years of software development experience
  • Proficiency with Python, Flask, PostgreSQL
  • Working-level knowledge and hands-on experience with AWS, GitHub, and GitHub Actions. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Comfortable leading conversations with both engineers and executives. 
  • Great remote work and communication etiquette.
  • Proficiency in secure software development practices, release planning, testing, and quality assurance.
  • Familiarity with security and privacy frameworks, standards and regulations like GDPR, HIPAA, NIST, etc.
  • Strong learning ability, strong self-drive, good adaptability and passion for quality and security.
  • An adaptive, empathetic, collaborative, and positive mindset.

$125,000 - $195,000 USD
