Engineering Manager - Data and Analytics Engineering

Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

Who we are:

Arcadia is the technology company empowering energy innovators and consumers to fight the climate crisis. Our software and APIs are revolutionizing an industry held back by outdated systems and institutions by creating unprecedented access to the data and clean energy needed to make a decarbonized energy grid possible.

In 2014, Arcadia set out on its mission to break the fossil fuel monopoly and since then we have been knocking down the institutional barriers to unlock decarbonization. To date, we have connected hundreds of thousands of consumers and small businesses with high-quality clean energy options. Fast forward to today, and now, we’re thinking even bigger. We have launched Arcadia Platform, an industry-defining SaaS platform that empowers developers and energy innovators to deliver their own custom, personalized energy experiences, accelerating the transformation of the industry from an analog energy system into a digitized information network.

Tackling one of the world’s biggest challenges requires out-of-the-box thinking & diverse perspectives. We’re building a team of individuals from different backgrounds, industries, & educational experiences. If you share our passion for ushering in the era of the clean electron, we look forward to learning what you would uniquely bring to Arcadia!

What we’re looking for:

We are seeking a thoughtful, empathetic, and driven Engineering Manager to grow, organize, and coach four India-based engineers responsible for building data products for Arcadia’s customers and internal stakeholders across our Platform business. The right candidate will deeply commit to championing team members -- removing roadblocks, advocating for their needs, and enabling their personal and professional growth and development -- while leading them to solve complex data engineering and analytics engineering problems.

Our Data stack comprises a data warehouse in Snowflake built using dbt Core, overall data orchestration with Prefect, ingestion with Fivetran, and notebooking/visualization in Streamlit and Hex. While experience with our exact tooling, especially Snowflake and dbt, will be a big advantage, experience with data engineering and dimensional data modeling (in any stack) is much more important.

This role is based out of Chennai, India with a hybrid remote-first approach–three of the four engineers are not Chennai-based–and is an exceptional opportunity for someone who relishes the chance to influence the development of a world-class data ecosystem,  guide how our team builds and stays relevant, and work in a fast-paced environment with world-class engineers. Our engineering values are deeply ingrained in our culture-- you can read more about them here.

What you'll do:

  • Empower and guide a team of mission-driven engineers to solve challenging problems in the energy industry.
  • Work with our Director of Data and Analytics Engineering and cross-functional partners (including Product, Design, and Marketing) to establish roadmaps and strategy that help serve and grow our Platform business
  • Represent engineering-driven considerations to ensure all stakeholder groups are aligned on company priorities, expectations, and contingencies
  • Contribute to technical development and discussions as necessary to ensure the team is building data pipelines and assets that scale and meet the business needs
  • Provide both ongoing support and mentorship to direct reports, strategically aligning their skills, interests, and career aspirations with business needs; defining, streamlining, and guiding the projects they work on; and both initiating and inviting conversations around performance, development, and morale
  • Deliver results in a fast-paced environment while always treating team members and colleagues with empathy & humanity

What will help you succeed:

Must-haves:

  • Overall 6+ of experience with 2+ years of team lead or engineering management experience on a data engineering and/or analytics engineering team, or team that was responsible for data warehouse design and development (we know team names are fluid in the Data space!)
  • Advanced understanding of modern data and analytics engineering practices and methodologies, and the ability to roll up your sleeves and contribute when necessary
  • Experience with Python in a data orchestration context, and SQL or Python in a data modeling context
  • Proven track record of effectively developing direct reports through continual feedback and goal-setting, and growing them through the ranks of an engineering organization
  • Experience successfully navigating the relationship between Engineering, Product, and Design teams

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with one or more of the technologies in our stack:
    • Snowflake
    • dbt or similar Analytics Engineering tooling
    • Prefect (Airflow experience may be an acceptable substitute)
    • AWS, Docker and Kubernetes (basic literacy–you won’t be administering an AWS account or configuring Kubernetes pods)
    • Github (including Github actions)
  • Experience and comfort navigating both the technical and people scalability challenges faced at startups undergoing rapid growth & product adoption
  • Experience in automating internal processes to help internal operations
  • Experience establishing and executing roadmaps
  • Background in the energy space or related field is an advantage

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation based on market standards.
  • We are working on a hybrid model with remote first policy
  • Apart from Fixed Base Salary potential candidates are eligible for following benefits

Eliminating carbon footprints, eliminating carbon copies.

Here at Arcadia, we cultivate diversity, celebrate individuality, and believe unique perspectives are key to our collective success in creating a clean energy future. Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are required to measure our progress toward having at least 7% of our workforce be individuals with disabilities. Identifying yourself as an individual with a disability is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer will be maintained confidentially and not be seen by selecting officials or anyone else involved in making personnel decisions. Completing the form will not negatively impact you in any way, regardless of whether you have self-identified in the past.
