Opening
We are hiring a AWS Cloud Cost Optimization Engineer to lead cost-efficiency efforts across our cloud environments, with a primary focus on AWS. In this role, you will analyze usage patterns and billing data to identify savings opportunities, including resource rightsizing, planning for Reserved Instances and Savings Plans, leveraging Spot capacity, and cleaning up unused resources. You will build automations to detect and clean up unused resources, enforce tagging policies for accurate reporting, and develop budget and dashboards that improve visibility into spend.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze AWS usage and billing data to identify trends, anomalies, and savings opportunities.
- Execute optimization strategies, including rightsizing and instance modernization; leveraging Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, and Spot capacity; recommending optimizations to container/Kubernetes requests and limits; and cleaning up ephemeral/abandoned resources (e.g. unattached volumes, stale snapshots, idle load balancers, orphaned pods).
- Build automations and workflows to detect and clean unused resources (e.g. automated cleanup of unused resources, anomaly detection, cost alerts).
- Partner with engineering teams to validate optimization opportunities, assess technical feasibility, and implement cost-saving measures.
- Work with finance teams to align forecasts and budgets with actual spend, improve variance analysis, and strengthen accountability for cloud cost performance across business units.
- Enforce cost policies and ensure tagging of resources is consistently applied, enabling accurate reporting and accountability.
- Create dashboards, alerts, and KPIs to track spend and measure the impact of cost-saving initiatives and R&D programs, ensuring savings are quantified and communicated.
- Stay current on AWS pricing models, tools, and discount programs; engage with vendor teams to leverage savings opportunities.
Qualifications & Skills
- 5–10+ years of experience in cloud cost optimization.
- Hands‑on experience implementing cost optimization measures (rightsizing, reservations, Spot, cleanup of abandoned resources).
- Proficiency with automation and scripting (e.g. Python, Bash).
- Experience with monitoring/alerting and workflow automation tools (CloudWatch, Lambda, Kubernetes tools, or equivalents).
- Ability to build clear reports and dashboards for technical and business stakeholders.
- Knowledge of AWS billing and native cost tool (Cost Explorer).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; experience working with engineering and finance teams.
Nice to have
- Exposure to Azure or GCP cost models.
- FinOps Practitioner or cloud provider certifications.
