Engineer, NDT Responsible Level III

As a member of the Quality Team, you will hold the position of Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Responsible Level (RL) III, in accordance with the requirements of NAS 410. In this role, you will oversee the qualification and certification of NDT personnel in compliance with the Archer NDT written practice manual which complies with NAS 410 requirements, conduct audits of NDT systems within the facility, ensure full compliance with all NDT processes and systems and conduct NDT Inspections. The NDT RL III shall be recognized internally and externally as a technical expert in their field. They are expected to be fully competent in serving as a technical liaison, representing Archer Aviation as the primary point of contact for all matters related to nondestructive testing and inspection.
What You'll Do:
- Prepare and verify work instructions for NDT methods in compliance with internal and external specifications and requirements, including, but not limited to government regulations and industry standards.
- Develop, author, and maintain Archer NDT procedures.
- Review and approve supplier NDT procedures for compliance with Archer Process Specifications.
- Review Archer Engineering drawing to ensure inspectability.
- Conduct NDT UT, PT, and/or ET Inspections, as needed to support operations
- Analyze and interpret inspection data, conduct research on product defects, and recommend modifications in products or quality standards.
- Provide and implement recommendations for future improvements, including proposals for new NDT equipment and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies, aimed at enhancing schedules and driving cost reductions.
- Provide guidance and expertise to the engineering and manufacturing teams on NDT issues.
- Serve as liaison on NDT related inspections, including but not limited to supplier visits to address inspection requirements and issues.
- Train, test, and certify NDT inspectors on behalf of Archer Aviation.
- Assess staffing levels and provide recommendations to the Head of Quality to ensure adequate personnel are in place to effectively support operations.
- Perform NDT audits to ensure compliance for both Archer and their suppliers (as required).
What You Need:
- Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering field or related discipline
- 5 years experience as a NDT RL III or 7 years experience as a NDT Method Level III (UT, PT, ET)
- In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, High School diploma or Associate’s Degree and 7 years experience as a NDT RL III or 10 years experience as a NDT Method Level III (UT, PT, ET)
- Ability to certify to Archer Method Level III in UT, PT and ET
- Expert in the understanding and interpretation of NAS 410
- Records to verify formal and on-the-job training meet the minimum requirements for Level 3 certification in the Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, and Ultrasonic testing methods per the requirements in NAS 410.
- Ability to certify to Archer Aviation Method Level 3 in Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) per the requirements in NAS 410.
- Expertise in ultrasonic inspection of composite: laminate, sandwich, and adhesive bonded assemblies.
- Expertise in performing NDT tasks and interpretation of inspection results.
- Demonstrated ability to write and review NDT procedures and Inspection Reports
- Have the skills and knowledge to supervise and/or set up and standardize equipment, process parts, interpret and evaluate for acceptance or rejection, and document results.
- Be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of industry nondestructive technique(s)/method(s).
- Have the skills and knowledge to conduct system performance checks in accordance with the applicable process standard.
- Be capable of providing the necessary guidance, supervision, and training to NDT personnel.
- Knowledgeable with the codes, standards, and other contractual documents that control the method as used by Archer.
- Have a knowledge of aircraft manufacturing and maintenance practices.
- Experience with MES/SAP systems and completing inspection plans electronically.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment in aerospace or other highly regulated environments.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as needed.
Bonus Qualifications
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate
- Certified to ASNT NDT Level III in UT, PT, and/or ET
- Experience completing first article inspections in accordance with SAE AS9102 with working knowledge of the precision measuring devices required for inspection.
- Experience working with Model Based Definition (MBD) or fully dimensional 3D models.

We drive a pay-for-performance culture and reward performance that supports the Company’s business strategy. For this position we are targeting a base pay between $129,965 - $152,900. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
