Engineering Technician, Assembly
Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. What you’ll do:
As an Engineering Technician - Assembly, you will work closely with engineers and technicians to support the assembly, integration, and testing of electromechanical systems for our eVTOL aircraft. You will play a key role in ensuring product quality, troubleshooting issues, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, modification documents, and test procedures.
- Assemble mechanical and structural sub-systems following engineering drawings, torque specifications, and industry best practices.
- Install and align major components—such as flight control linkages, actuators, and landing gear—ensuring precise fit and function.
- Perform functional checks, test alignments, and record key build data for traceability.
- Identify and utilize a wide variety of tooling solutions for integration of system components while adhering to industry best practices.
- Troubleshoot and rectify mechanical assembly issues on the shop floor, performing root-cause analysis and quick-turn repairs or modifications.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing engineers, design teams, and quality inspectors to improve assembly processes and overall build efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure adherence to industry safety and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation and reporting for testing, troubleshooting, and repair activities.
What you need:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in the aerospace and/or automotive industry as an engineering technician.
- Associate’s degree or certification in a field of engineering technology (4+ years of experience can substitute for education requirements)
- Solid understanding of mechanical and structural assembly techniques, including fastener installation, sealants, and alignment processes.
- Knowledge of aircraft safety procedures, tool control, foreign object debris (FOD) prevention, and industry regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, engineering instructions, and FAA guidelines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across various teams.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with shifting priorities.
- New Product Development experience in Aerospace & Aviation
- Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks that may expose you to hazardous materials
Bonus Qualifications:
- A&P certification or equivalent experience.
- Experience in Computer-Aided Design software (CAD) such as SolidWorks, Siemens NX, Catia, Etc.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve integration and/or mechanical issues.
- Experience working with electric aircraft, aircraft configuration management, and FAA conformity.
