Staff Development Engineer (SJ2025SK)
Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. What You’ll Do
- Perform gear and bearing design, including specific failure modes and failure identification.
- Complete overall powertrain design, including structures, thermal design, lubrication systems, pumps, and filter components.
- Contribute to powertrain test strategies and methodologies.
- Drive technical root cause analysis for powertrain test findings, with focus on vibration, gear
- wear, bearing failure, and over-temperature conditions.
- Conduct structural performance of the system, including modal response, peak stress regions, and gear life.
- Perform FEA on components and subassemblies as necessary to aid root cause and corrective action activities.
- Perform noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) analysis, Torsional vibration analysis.
- Contribute to health monitoring program plan including mapping of vibration signatures to key gearbox failure modes.
- Perform motor and gearbox architectural design trades.
- Assist Design Engineering activities to ensure completion of customer and business requirements.
- Partner with Sr. leadership to establish strategic plans, make decisions on implementation and ensuring operational effectiveness.
- Cascade functional strategy to the team.
- Report directly to the Sr leadership of Electric Engine.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a closely related field.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Principal Drivetrain Engineer or a related job title in which 8 years of experience with product design, product development, drivetrain development and testing, including 2 years of experience with electric drivetrain was gained.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENT: 10% Domestic Travel.
