Power Conversion and Distribution System Lead
Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise.
Our sights are set high and our problems are hard, and we believe that diversity in the workplace is what makes us smarter, drives better insights, and will ultimately lift us all to success. We are dedicated to cultivating an equitable and inclusive environment that embraces our differences, and supports and celebrates all of our team members.
What you’ll do:
- Define the architecture of aircraft high voltage to low voltage power conversion and low voltage distribution system, including power electronics converters, batteries, power distribution units, circuit breaker units, and interfaces to avionics equipment for aircraft platforms
- Perform key technical trade-offs for power conversion and distribution system to meet the aircraft function and safety requirements and optimize system performance such as weight and cost
- Define system development roadmap and strategy to meet the program schedule and requirements, and perform make vs buy studies and decisions on key system components/modules
- Lead electrical load analysis for the system, define and optimize the power budgets
- Create power conversion and distribution system requirements, flow down the aircraft requirements to the system requirements, and define key features and characteristics of the electrical system
- Collaborate with the cross-functional teams to define the requirements for system modules and boards, and lead the validation and verification of requirements
- Lead the electrical system safety and reliability analysis, and support aircraft level and module level safety and reliability analysis
- Lead integration of power conversion and distribution system and modules into the aircraft platforms, plan the module acceptance tests, integration tests, safety of flight tests and review and approve test results
- Support airborne power conversion and distribution modules design, development and test based on the aircraft and electrical system requirements, system architecture and design standards established
What you need:
- BS Degree in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years or MS with 8+ years of experience in related fields
- Experience in developing electrical power conversion and distribution system architectures, requirements and specifications, validation and verification
- Solid knowledge and hands-on experience on integrating the power electronics and control modules into the electrical system
- Understand traditional and modern power electronics technologies including (not limited to):
- DC-DC and AC-DC/DC-AC power electronics topologies
- Familiarity with both wide-band-gap and silicon power semiconductor devices, passive power devices, e.g. inductors, capacitors, resistors and transformers
- Power electronics system design and hardware integration
- Master of all types of lab instruments: oscilloscope, power supplies, electronics loads, function generators, network analyzer, EMC analyzers etc.
- Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills
