Role Summary
As a Spiritual Care Counselor – Hospice (PRN) at Arc Hospice & Palliative Care, you will provide compassionate, inclusive emotional and spiritual support to patients and families navigating serious illness and end of life. This role is designed for clinicians or spiritual care professionals who value presence, listening, and non-denominational support grounded in respect for diverse beliefs, cultures, and life experiences.
Overview
The Spiritual Care Counselor provides emotional and spiritual support to patients and families of all faiths, belief systems, and cultural backgrounds in accordance with the hospice philosophy and Medicare Conditions of Participation. Working as part of the interdisciplinary group (IDG), this role supports comfort, dignity, and connection through inclusive, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized spiritual and emotional support to patients and families throughout the end-of-life journey
- Conduct spiritual assessments and develop patient-centered care plans reflecting diverse cultural, spiritual, or secular needs
- Offer presence, listening, life review, and legacy support without promoting any specific belief system
- Coordinate care with Chaplains, social workers, or community spiritual leaders as appropriate
- Participate in interdisciplinary group meetings and contribute to holistic care planning
- Assist with grief support and bereavement follow-up, including participation in memorial services or community grief events
- Document all interactions and care planning updates in the electronic medical record in accordance with policy and regulatory standards
- Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator and other team members to align spiritual and emotional support across the care continuum
- Provide education to team members on spiritual distress, cultural humility, and psychosocial-spiritual care
- Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and a spirit of compassion and inclusivity in all interactions
- Remain current on best practices in spiritual care and end-of-life emotional support
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, religious studies, social work, or a related human services field required; master’s degree preferred
- Experience providing emotional or spiritual support in hospice, hospital, behavioral health, or community settings
- Demonstrated ability to support individuals and families of all belief systems, including secular or non-religious populations
- Ability to address grief, life transitions, and existential concerns with compassion and respect
- Understanding of hospice philosophy, goals of care, and Medicare Conditions of Participation related to spiritual care
- Comfort working independently in home and facility settings
- Strong interpersonal, documentation, and communication skills
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
- Proficiency in using electronic medical record systems and virtual communication tools

The compensation range for this position is shown below and reflects the expected pay range for the role. Arc Hospice & Palliative Care is committed to transparency and equity in all compensation practices.
Final pay is determined based on factors such as experience, licensure, location, and business needs at the time of hire. Some roles may be eligible for additional compensation components consistent with Arc Hospice & Palliative Care practices.

$23 - $30 USD
