Job Description Summary
The Hospice Registered Nurse (RN) Doula provides compassionate end-of-life care, emotional support, education, and advocacy for hospice patients and their families. This role combines clinical nursing expertise with holistic doula support to ensure patients experience dignity, comfort, peace, and quality care throughout the end-of-life journey. The Hospice RN Doula collaborates closely with interdisciplinary hospice teams to address physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychosocial needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent Arc Hospice & Palliative Care in the community with professionalism and compassion.
- Provide compassionate end-of-life care and emotional support to hospice patients and families.
- Assist patients and loved ones in understanding the hospice process and care plans.
- Support patients through symptom management, comfort care, and pain monitoring within the RN scope of practice.
- Educate families regarding end-of-life expectations, grief support, and caregiving techniques.
- Advocate for patient dignity, comfort, and individualized care preferences.
- Collaborate with physicians, social workers, chaplains, aides, and interdisciplinary hospice teams.
- Provide bedside support during active transitioning and vigil periods.
- Assist with advance directives, care coordination, and resource referrals.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in compliance with hospice regulations.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Medicare hospice guidelines, and state nursing regulations.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and care planning.
- Offer grief and bereavement support resources to families.
- Support culturally sensitive and spiritually respectful care practices.
- Promote patient comfort, safety, quality of life throughout all stages of hospice care.
- Ensure compliance with all HIPAA, state nursing regulations, and company policies.
- Participate in care coordination meetings, training sessions, and continuing education opportunities.
- Provide crisis intervention and support when needed.
- Assist with referrals to community resources and support services.
- Promote patient safety and infection control standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Active and unrestricted State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- End-of-Life Doula Certification from an accredited organization.
- Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) preferred
- 1–2 years of nursing experience preferred, especially in labor and delivery, women’s health, maternal health, or postpartum care.
- Current BLS certification required.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and compassion in emotionally intense situations.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Knowledge of maternal health practices, childbirth education, and postpartum support.
- Demonstrated empathy, sensitivity, and ability to support patients and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centered care that reflects Arc Hospice & Palliative Care’s mission, values, and standards of dignity, respect, compassion, and integrity.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
This position requires regular local travel to healthcare facilities, referral partner offices, and community locations. The role may involve prolonged periods of driving, standing, or walking. Candidates must be able to work in varied environments, including hospitals and long-term care settings. The role occasionally requires lifting marketing materials or display equipment. The work environment includes exposure to typical community and clinical settings and may involve navigating emotionally sensitive discussions related to end-of-life care.
The starting compensation for this position is shown below. Arc Hospice & Palliative Care is committed to transparency and equity in all compensation practices. The rate displayed reflects the starting hourly or salaried pay for the role and does not represent a range.
Final pay is determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, location, and business needs at the time of hire. Some roles may be eligible for additional compensation components consistent with Arc Hospice & Palliative Care practices.

$85,000 - $85,000 USD
