DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Job Description Summary 

The Director of Business Development is responsible for leading and executing the strategic growth plan for a hospice program. This role serves as both a sales leader and individual contributor, with accountability for achieving admission and referral targets, cultivating relationships with key referral sources, and representing the organization with professionalism and mission alignment. The Director may supervise a local business development team or function independently based on site needs. This is a field-based role with office time expected as needed for collaboration, documentation, and coordination. 

 Key Responsibilities 

Develops and implements a strategic business development plan aligned with organizational growth goals. 

 Establishes, maintains, and deepens relationships with referral sources, including physicians, hospitals, nursing facilities, assisted living communities, and other community partners. 

 Identifies opportunities to improve referral conversion, source diversification, and community visibility. 

 Provides education to referral sources on hospice eligibility, services, and the organization’s differentiators. 

 Collaborates with the clinical team to support seamless transitions for referred patients. 

 Monitors and analyzes referral and admissions data to track progress and adjust tactics as needed. 

 Conducts field visits, rounding, and presentations to generate new referrals and build relationships. 

 Ensures appropriate documentation, CRM use (if applicable), and timely communication of referral activity. 

 Participates in site-level leadership meetings, marketing initiatives, and quality improvement efforts. 

 Maintains compliance with all applicable regulations, company policies, and ethical standards. 

 Performs other duties as assigned. 

 Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, healthcare administration, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred. 

 Minimum of three (3) years of experience in hospice, home health, or healthcare sales required. 

 Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed growth targets and referral goals. 

 Strong knowledge of hospice philosophy, eligibility, and service offerings preferred. 

 Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills. 

 Ability to work independently in a fast-paced field environment with minimal supervision. 

 Proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with CRM systems preferred. 

 Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required. 

 Demonstrated empathy, sensitivity, and ability to support patients and families from diverse backgrounds.

 Physical Requirements / Working Conditions 

This position is primarily field-based with routine travel to referral sources and community locations. Time in the office is expected as needed for administrative duties. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, communicate effectively in person and by phone, and work a flexible schedule based on business needs. 

The starting compensation for this position is shown below. Arc Hospice & Palliative Care is committed to transparency and equity in all compensation practices. The rate displayed reflects the starting hourly or salaried pay for the role and does not represent a range.

Final pay is determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, location, and business needs at the time of hire. Some roles may be eligible for additional compensation components consistent with Arc Hospice & Palliative Care practices.

Compensation

$125,000 - $125,000 USD
