Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, and with a regional office in New York City, the company’s experienced and dedicated team develops, finances, builds, owns, and operates renewable energy projects nationwide. With a strong track record in utility-scale solar and energy storage, Arevon is a trusted partner to utilities and businesses seeking cost-effective, sustainable energy solutions. By prioritizing American manufacturing and domestic energy production, the company invests in U.S. jobs, strengthens local economies, and advances the country’s energy independence.
The Position
Arevon is seeking a Director of Health & Safety to lead safety strategy, culture, compliance, and performance across our growing portfolio of renewable energy assets. This role is ideal for a hands-on safety leader who can influence executive decision-making, partner effectively with EPC and O&M contractors, and strengthen safety practices across projects in development, construction, and operations.
Reporting to the Vice President of Construction, the Director of Health & Safety will serve as Arevon’s subject matter expert for health, safety, compliance, training, incident prevention, contractor oversight, and safety performance reporting. This is a hands-on, working Director ("player-coach") role, directly overseeing EPC contractor HSE performance and compliance with Arevon's requirements during construction, while leading a lean HSE function that includes one direct report supporting O&M. The Director will work closely with Construction, Asset Management, Development, Procurement, and executive leadership to embed a proactive, measurable, and accountable safety culture across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, strengthen, and continuously improve Arevon’s health and safety program across construction and operating assets.
- Partner with executive leadership to define expectations, reinforce accountability, and promote a strong safety culture across the organization.
- Evaluate EPC, O&M, and other contractor safety programs for alignment with Arevon requirements and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct field audits, inspections, and site assessments for renewable energy projects under construction and in operation.
- Monitor safety performance, identify trends, and prepare clear reports, dashboards, and recommendations for internal stakeholders.
- Lead or support incident investigations, root-cause analyses, corrective action plans, and lessons-learned processes.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, standards, and training programs that reduce risk and support consistent execution across the portfolio.
- Track emerging regulations, industry guidance, and best practices; translate them into practical compliance and risk-management actions.
- Provide safety and health training, coaching, and technical guidance to managers, supervisors, project teams, and other employees as needed.
- Support staffing plans for project safety resources, including identifying needs, assisting with hiring, and coordinating third-party support when required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, engineering, construction management, engineering management, industrial hygiene, or a related discipline preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- 10+ years of progressive HSE leadership experience in construction, renewable energy, power generation, utilities, heavy civil, electrical, industrial, or a comparable field-based environment.
- Deep working knowledge of OSHA requirements, Cal/OSHA requirements, construction safety practices, incident prevention, contractor management, and regulatory compliance.
- Successful completion of OSHA 510 (Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry) and OSHA 500 (Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry) credential preferred or willingness to obtain within six months of hire.
- Demonstrated ability to influence leaders, contractors, and field teams through credibility, practical judgment, and clear communication.
- Experience implementing behavior-based safety practices, leading incident investigations, and developing corrective actions that measurably improve performance.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and reporting skills, including the ability to identify trends, communicate risks, and recommend practical solutions.
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities, multiple stakeholders, and distributed project teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Teams, and safety reporting or data visualization tools; Power BI experience is a plus.
- Ability to travel regularly to project and operating sites, anticipated at approximately 50%.
- This role may be based in Arevon’s Scottsdale office, which is preferred, or remote for the right candidate. Regular travel to construction and operating sites across the United States is expected.
Preferred Qualifications
- Candidates should bring substantial construction safety experience, preferably with electrical, heavy construction, utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, or other renewable energy projects.
- Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Construction Health and Safety Technician, or comparable safety credential preferred.
