Assistant Vice President, Casualty Underwriter

The AVP Casualty Underwriter role requires a highly motivated and ambitious individual. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective management of a portfolio of excess casualty accounts across all industry classes and includes the underwriting review and administration of both new opportunities and existing business. The role will also involve the active management of client/broker relationships with a view to strengthening those which are existing and establishing new ones going forward. The successful candidate must enjoy working in a close team environment, while collaborating, working together, be able to share and contribute for the benefit of the team’s goals and objectives, while displaying initiative in a dynamic and constantly changing workplace.
Additional Key Responsibilities:
- Chair client meetings
- Maintain and service an existing book of renewal business
- In consultation with senior underwriters negotiate for a diverse portfolio of renewals and new business opportunities
- Responsible for accurate data entry and file maintenance
- Conduct account research as necessary
- Involvement in strategic projects as necessary
- Contribute to the overall strategy and annual budgeting process of the department
- Represent Argo Re at industry conferences and marketing events
- Develop and foster relationships with key clients and brokers
- Perform in depth submission reviews and evaluate underwriting exposures
- Create, check accuracy of policy documents
- Create and maintain underwriting files
- Prepare underwriting reports as needed
- Perform other underwriting and research duties as required
Key Requirements, Skills and Competencies
- Minimum of 5 years of proven underwriting casualty insurance or casualty broking experience.
- Recognized industry designation as asset.
- Desire and ability to partner with functions and resources beyond one’s functional area to deliver solutions.
- Proven experience showing initiative and problem solving.
- Must be innovative and a self-starter.
- Strong organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Proficient in the use of computer programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Execution and a proven ability to consistently produce and meet deadlines.
- The ability to work as part of a team and mentor junior team is mandatory.
