Our human-centric approach guides us every step of the way and we're proud of the impact our products make.
We are looking for an Observability Engineer to join Arion's team!
What We're Looking For
You have a backend development background and you've engaged with monitoring or telemetry tooling in some capacity — whether that's wiring up an APM agent, working with a platform like Datadog or New Relic, or spending serious time diagnosing production behavior. Familiarity with OpenTelemetry concepts is a strong plus. You're comfortable in Linux environments, you can read and write code, and you're genuinely curious about distributed systems and how things fail.
You don't need to be an observability specialist. You need to be a solid engineer who wants to become one.
You'll Be Working On
- Instrumenting Elixir and Rust services using OpenTelemetry
- Designing alert strategies that surface real signal and eliminate noise
- Building proactive monitoring that catches degradation before it becomes an incident
- Analyzing exceptions in lower environments and tracing them back to code-level handling gaps
- Providing guidance to development teams on improving observability posture
- Defining and tracking SLOs that reflect actual user experience
Required
- Hands-on experience working with production systems — NOC, support engineering, SRE, or backend development
- Familiarity with at least one enterprise observability or APM platform (Datadog, New Relic, Sumo Logic, Dynatrace, or equivalent)
- Working knowledge of OpenTelemetry concepts — traces, metrics, logs, and instrumentation
- Ability to read and reason about unfamiliar codebases; you don't need to write Elixir or Rust, but you need to be able to follow them
- Some programming or scripting ability — Python or similar
- Strong written communication; you'll be translating technical findings into guidance for engineering teams
- Demonstrated accountability and follow-through in a team environment
Preferred
- Experience contributing to or extending OpenTelemetry instrumentation in a production environment
- Familiarity with Elixir, Rust, or other functional or systems languages
- Background in SLO definition and error budget management
- Experience working across distributed or microservices architectures
