JOB SUMMARY

As a Senior Payroll Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the payroll process within our organization. You will ensure the accurate and timely processing of employee payments, tax deductions, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Additionally, you will manage a team of payroll specialists and collaborate with various departments to maintain payroll data integrity.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Oversee the end-to-end payroll processing cycle, including data entry, calculations, and distribution of paychecks or electronic transfers
  • Review and verify payroll data for accuracy, including salary adjustments, overtime, bonuses, and other compensation components
  • Create and post payroll-related journal entries in the general ledger and reconcile all payroll-related accounts
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations when processing payroll
  • Prepare payroll reports, including tax filings, earnings statements, and other financial reports as needed
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in payroll laws and regulations to ensure compliance
  • Assist in the preparation of government audits and respond to inquiries related to payroll
  • Work closely with the HR department to ensure accurate employee data, new hire onboarding, and terminations
  • Ensure timely 401k remittances and assist with the annual 401k audit
  • Coordinate with finance and accounting teams for financial reporting and reconciliations
  • Help to monitor and resolve CityVet MUTTS tickets assigned and related to payroll
  • Address and resolve payroll discrepancies or issues promptly and effectively
  • Implement process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy
  • Perform routine office tasks, such as, filing, data entry, answering phones, processing and distributing mail, etc
  • Complete all tasks as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Proven experience as a Payroll Accountant or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processes, tax regulations, and relevant software systems
  • Proficiency in using payroll software and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information
  • Familiarity with payroll software such as ADP, Paychex, or similar systems
  • Experience in multi-state or international payroll processing
  • Maturity, good judgment, and professional demeanor
  • Self-driven, takes initiative, working with minimal supervision and direction
  • Ability to demonstrate and uphold CityVet's core values

REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Two to five years of proven payroll accountant or similar experience
  • Strong google suite, Microsoft office & computer skills
  • At least 18 years of age at the time of hire
