Research Billing Manager

Job Summary:
Arizona Liver Health/Arizona Clinical Trials is looking for qualified candidates for the Research Billing Manager position in Chandler, AZ.
Title: Research Billing Manager
Compensation: $75,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience
Status: Full-time, Salary, Exempt
Reports to: Director of Business Development

- Oversee the preparation and submission of invoices related to clinical trial activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage the reconciliation of accounts receivable, ensuring payments align with sponsor contracts and study budgets.
- Monitor and resolve billing discrepancies, including denied or unpaid invoices.
- Maintain an organized system for tracking billing milestones and deliverables.
- Responsible for the overall invoicing and collection of all research-related operations.
- Regular reporting of application activities and timely management of all accounts receivable (AR) aging components.
- Maintain and improve sustained cash flow through diligent and aggressive monitoring of sponsor accounts.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines, including Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and applicable billing regulations.
- Collaborate with regulatory and compliance teams to implement and enforce billing policies.
- Stay informed about changes in clinical research billing regulations and update processes accordingly.
- Work closely with contract and budget teams to align billing practices with agreed-upon terms.
- Work directly with the Budgets & Contracts, QA/QC department, and other team members to understand all aspects related to research billing.
- Supervise and mentor the Research Accounts Receivables (AR) Team by providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
- Train, oversee, and work with virtual employees assigned to assist the Research Accounts Receivables (AR) Team.
- Foster a collaborative environment with clinical research coordinators, investigators, and finance teams.
- Train and mentor staff members in the department to ensure optimal performance and adherence to organizational standards.
- Develop tools to evaluate areas of importance, including SOPs and workflow analysis.
- Collaborate with the Research Department on tasks such as data entry and maintaining training for delegated responsibilities.
- Assess risks to business operations and implement strategies to mitigate them.
- Generate and analyze reports on billing performance, payment status, and revenue cycles.
- Present findings and recommendations to leadership to enhance financial operations.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and improve billing efficiency.
- Calculate data to inform organizational operations and support decision-making
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required
- At least two (2) years of relevant work experience
- Experience working with an ERP system
- 5+ years’ experience in accounting and/or finance preferred
- Prior experience working in healthcare industry preferred
- Proficient in use of Microsoft applications
- Professional demeanor and skill in working with internal and external customers
- Time and stress management necessary to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Self-management in terms of initiating and/or completing complex, multi-faceted projects in a timely manner
- Unquestionable integrity and trustworthiness
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word) heavy Excel work
- Ability to provide innovative solutions to accounting problems
- Ability to handle large amounts of data while also prioritizing workload effectively
- Understanding of healthcare industry preferred
- Clinical Trial/Research knowledge preferred
Education, credentials, and/or trainings required
- Bachelor's Degree in Management, Finance, or related field
- Two (2) years or more in accounting or billing experience in a clinical hospital or healthcare setting or relevant work experience
- Clinical Research experience a plus
- 5+ years’ experience in accounting and/or finance preferred
- Prior experience working in healthcare industry preferred
- Clinical Trial/Research knowledge preferred
