Job Summary:

The Director Business Development is a pivotal role focused on driving strategic growth, expanding clinical trials in new therapeutic areas of interest, and fostering industry sponsors / CRO’s partnerships. A primary responsibility is the proactive development of a robust clinical trial pipeline, identifying and securing new studies to advance the organization’s portfolio. This individual will bring deep knowledge of clinical trial operations, therapeutic clinical protocol understanding, and site readiness while supporting senior leadership in optimizing trial execution and readiness. 

The role requires a deep understanding of clinical research trial partnerships (Phase I-IV), market dynamics, and the regulatory environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong network within the space and a proven track record of driving business growth through strategic partnerships, customized solutions, sponsor-led clinical trials, client acquisition, and market expansion. 


Job Title: Director of Business Development (or Senior Director)

Location: Chandler, AZ (Remote, US)
Preference for candidates currently located in US states that we are currently set up to do business (Arizona, Texas, Florida, Ohio, Minnesota). This role is not open to hire in California or New York. 

Reports To: SVP of Commercial Operations

Compensation: Base Salary + Milestone Incentives + Annual Performance Bonus 

Status: Full-time, Salary, Exempt

Strategic Growth and Clinical Trial Pipeline Development 

  • Proactively identify, evaluate, and secure new clinical trial opportunities across diverse therapeutic areas and within our network of clinical trial sites to build and expand the organization’s trial portfolio. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to drive clinical trial acquisition and increase market share in clinical research services. 
  • Establish and maintain a robust pipeline of high-value clinical trial leads, ensuring alignment with organizational capabilities and growth objectives. 
  • Foster relationships with sponsors, CROs, and other stakeholders to enhance collaboration and secure long term pipeline engagement. 
  • Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and trade shows to promote capabilities and identify new trial opportunities. 
  • Conduct thorough market research to identify trends, competitors, and emerging opportunities within the clinical research industry.

Partnership Development and Client Engagement 

  • Act as a trusted advisor to sponsors and partners, aligning their needs with the organization’s expertise in clinical trial execution. 
  • Develop strategic partnerships that drive long-term growth and diversify the organization’s trial portfolio. 

Team Leadership and Collaboration 

  • Collaborate on the development of marketing materials and presentations tailored to sponsor needs. 
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting 
  • Track key metrics related to clinical trial acquisition, revenue growth, and client retention, providing regular reports to senior management. 
  • Utilize CRM tools to manage sponsor interactions, monitor pipeline status, and ensure accurate data tracking. 
  • Prepare strategic reports highlighting successes, challenges, and opportunities for improvement. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required 

  • Demonstrated success in clinical trial pipeline development and sponsor engagement. 
  • In-depth understanding of clinical trial processes, therapeutic development, and site operations. 
  • Willingness to travel for sponsor meetings, site visits, and industry events.   
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders. 
  • Detail and goal oriented with strong organizational, time-management, and leadership skills with a commitment to ensuring patient confidentiality. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision and problem-solve effectively. 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook and computer navigation and typing skills. 
  • Self-starter who thrives in a collaborative environment. 

Education, credentials, and/or trainings required. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Leadership, Biotechnology, Marketing, Life Sciences, or a related field required. An MBA or Advanced degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • 5-10+ years of experience in Business Development, Strategic Sales, or a related role within Clinical Research or Pharmaceutical Research 
  • In-depth understanding of the pharmaceutical and drug development industry, including product development, market dynamics, and regulatory environments.
  • Clinical Research experience highly preferred
  • Existing network and proven success delivering on business development goals in the clinical trial space

Work environment

  • Remote or Admin Office setting

Physical demands

  • Able to lift at least 15 lbs.
  • Able to sit for long periods (at least 50%)
  • Able to type and do computer work for long periods

Travel Requirements

  • Quarterly travel to Admin office (Chandler, AZ) and client prospecting travel may be required as needed
