We’re excited to bring in a Principal Engineer that will help lead Arkestro’s technical evolution and standards, while still contributing to key projects. The right candidate will help drive technology at the platform level – building architecture and applications not only to impact current projects but to set the stage for future business needs.
The Principal Engineer will help guide architecture and standards, mentor engineers, and enable long-term product development with a scalable, maintainable and flexible platform. Responsibilities include designing and implementing systems, optimizing performance, and ensuring high-quality, reliable technology. The right candidate will collaborate with a phenomenal group of software engineers, data scientists, product managers, product designers and quality engineers to deliver and scale a transformational software product.
This is originally a hands-on role, writing code for a majority of time with a gradual transition to strategy.
Responsibilities
- Drive technical innovation and build scalable, maintainable and flexible solutions.
- Lead technical teams through implementation of large projects.
- Architect and design systems for our various applications.
- Autonomously deliver ongoing business impact across a team, product capability, or technical system.
- Assess Arkestro’s business needs, projects, platforms and technologies to shape technical direction.
- Help educate and mentor other developers.
- Work with Product Management and Staff Tech Leads to estimate and commit.
- Implement best practices, methodologies, and tools to optimize the development process and increase efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including senior leadership, to provide updates on project status, risks, and issues.
- Participate in On call rotation
Technologies and tools we use:
- Frontend: React, TypeScript, AntD, Jest + React Testing Library
- Backend: Ruby, Rails, Node, Postgres, Redis, Sidekiq Pro, RSpec
- Fundamentals: Shell, SQL, config file and environment configuration
- Workflow and Deployment: Github, AWS, DataDog, Jira, Confluence, Sentry, Code Climate, Pagerduty Slack, Fellow
Preferred Qualifications
- 15yrs+ building customer-facing applications professionally in collaboration with Product Management, UX and Data
- 10yrs+ of Rails/Ruby
- 6yrs+ React, JavaScript/TypeScript, NextJS, CSS, Figma.
- 6yrs+ of Architecting Full Stack Applications
- 5yrs+ of AWS and/or Kubernetes with Istio
- 5yrs+ Leading technical teams
- Experience working in fast moving environments with on-call rotations and documented SLAs, SLOs, RPOs, and RTOs.
Bonus Qualifications
- 5yrs+ of Python
- Series B and above startup experience
- Use of AI development tools
Pay Range
$200,000 - $250,000 USD
