Role Summary

The Senior Sales Commission Analyst owns the accuracy of commission and incentive payments for ATG's brokers, agents, and internal sales teams, covering both W-2 employees and 1099 independent agents on cadences ranging from weekly to quarterly. This role builds and tests commission plans, performs a reasonableness review before every payout release, and is the primary point of contact for commission inquiries. The Senior Analyst works in Sigma (or a similar BI tool) and Sage Intacct (or a similar general ledger), and partners with HR, Operations, and Finance so plan terms arrive complete and every plan is documented end-to-end. The role reports to the Director, Treasury and Finance Operations and has no direct reports.

Responsibilities

Commission Processing and Accuracy

  • Calculate, process, and release commission and incentive payments on multiple cadences, ranging from weekly to quarterly, for brokers, agents, and internal sales personnel
  • Process commissions for both W-2 employees and 1099 independent agents, applying the correct treatment for each
  • Perform a reasonableness review of each commission run before payout release, and hold or correct payouts that fall outside expected ranges
  • Perform second-person review of the weekly agent settlement file before bank upload
  • Calculate and process payouts tied to agent agreements, promissory notes, retractions, and addendums
  • Recalculate adjustments, incentives, or errors arising from commission calculations, and communicate the source of each issue and its resolution to all affected parties
  • Validate commission data by reconciling sales activity, revenue, margins, and payouts, and trace variances back to the original calculation

Systems and Data Integrity

  • Use Sigma (or a similar BI tool) to pull, validate, and analyze commission data
  • Reconcile commission payouts and accruals to Sage Intacct (or a similar general ledger)
  • Keep employee, plan, and payout data consistent across the HRIS, BI, and GL systems
  • Support system updates, enhancements, and testing, and recommend payment-processing improvements

Stakeholder Support and Training

  • Act as the primary point of contact for commission inquiries from employees and agents, and handle escalated questions on complex commission or incentive issues
  • Explain commission calculations and plan mechanics clearly to sales staff, agents, and non-finance stakeholders
  • Train new agents and employees on their commission plans and how payouts are calculated

Reviews, Controls, and Reconciliations

  • Document reasonableness-review exceptions and resolutions, and review recurring issues with sales management
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, documentation, and process standards
  • Prepare commission accrual reconciliation files for month-end and year-end

Reporting, Analysis, and Plan Design

  • Build and test new commission and incentive plans before launch, including modeling their cost impact
  • Prepare commission and incentive summary reports for management
  • Build attainment and productivity reports for performance management and cost analysis
  • Support forecasting, accruals, and budgeting related to sales compensation, and flag trends for leadership

Process and Policy

  • Partner with HR, Operations, and Finance on the plan intake template so all plan terms arrive in one document
  • Document each commission plan end-to-end, from intake terms through calculation logic, payout, and GL treatment
  • Review plan assignments for accuracy, including new hires, promotions, and plan changes entered by the settlements team
  • Draft process and policy updates for review by the Director, Treasury and Finance Operations
  • Identify and lead process improvement initiatives and other commission projects as assigned

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in sales commissions, incentive compensation, or a related finance role, with at least 2 years administering commission plans directly
  • Experience with a BI tool (Sigma or similar) and a general ledger (Sage Intacct or similar); HRIS experience a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, nested formulas, large-data modeling)
  • Demonstrated ability to reconcile complex data sets and trace variances back to their source
  • Experience with month-end commission accruals and reconciliations
  • Experience reviewing or approving payment files before release
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including explaining calculations to sales staff, agents, and leadership
  • High level of integrity and discretion with confidential compensation data
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in transportation, logistics, or 3PL environments, especially agent- or broker-based commission models
  • Experience modeling or designing commission and incentive plans
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field
  • Experience calculating commissions for both W-2 employees and 1099 independent contractors or agents
