Senior Medical Writer

Bring science to life

At Ashfield MedComms, we believe great medical communications have the power to change understanding, influence clinical practice and improve patient outcomes.

We're looking for an experienced Senior Medical Writer to join our growing team and help develop high-quality, scientifically rigorous communications for our pharmaceutical and biotech clients.

This is a role for you if you can combine strong scientific expertise with exceptional writing skills. You will need to get to the heart of complex data, identify the story within it, and communicate it with clarity, creativity, and impact.

The role

Reporting to a Senior Scientific Director, as a Senior Medical Writer, you'll take a leading role across a diverse portfolio of medical communications projects. These projects include websites, MOA videos, symposia, booths, internal educational materials, and strategy documents. You'll work with clients, healthcare professionals, authors, and colleagues across the agency.

You'll develop scientific content from concept through to final delivery, while also providing strategic and scientific input to the wider account team.

Your work could span a range of channels and formats, including:

  • Manuscripts, abstracts and posters
  • Congress materials and scientific presentations
  • Advisory board and expert meeting materials
  • Medical education and disease-awareness programmes
  • Slide decks and speaker materials
  • Digital and interactive medical communications
  • Scientific platforms and campaign content
  • Training and internal communications materials

You'll work across a growing portfolio of solid tumor indications.

What you'll do

As a Senior Medical Writer, you will:

  • Lead the development of scientifically accurate and engaging medical communications.
  • Interpret and critically evaluate complex scientific and clinical data, identifying the main insights and messages.
  • Develop content from brief through to final approval, ensuring a high standard of scientific and editorial quality.
  • Conduct literature searches and undertake comprehensive scientific research.
  • Develop publication and congress materials in collaboration with authors and our teams.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients, healthcare professionals, key opinion leaders and external experts.
  • Attend and contribute to client meetings, advisory boards, congresses and other scientific meetings.
  • Provide scientific and strategic input into project planning and programme development.
  • Work with account management, strategy, creative and editorial colleagues to deliver integrated communications.
  • Review and critically edit the work of other writers, providing constructive feedback and maintaining high scientific and editorial standards.
  • Support and mentor more junior members of the writing team.
  • Contribute to new business opportunities, pitches and proposals.

About you

You'll be an experienced Senior Medical Writer who is comfortable engaging with clients and experts, and motivated by producing work that genuinely adds value.

You'll bring:

  • A degree, MSc, PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant life sciences or healthcare discipline.
  • Several years experience working as a medical writer, within a medical communications agency.
  • Experience developing a range of medical communications materials, including publications and congress deliverables.
  • The ability to understand complex data and translate it into compelling communications for different audiences.
  • The confidence to present scientific information and contribute to client discussions.
  • A genuine curiosity about science, healthcare and the evolving medical communications landscape.

Experience across Oncology is welcome. We're equally interested in people who have developed expertise in other areas and are keen to broaden their experience.

Why Ashfield MedComms?

You'll join a team where scientific expertise, creativity and collaboration come together to deliver communications that make a difference.

We offer the opportunity to:

  • Work with leading pharmaceutical and biotech organisations on high-profile global programmes.
  • Collaborate with experienced medical communications, scientific and creative professionals.
  • Develop your expertise across a broad range of therapeutic areas and communication channels.
  • Work with leading healthcare professionals and scientific experts.
  • Take ownership of meaningful projects while having the support of an experienced team around you.
  • Develop your leadership and mentoring skills as your career progresses.
  • Work within a flexible and inclusive environment where different perspectives are valued.
  • Flexible hybrid and remote working options.
  • A competitive benefits package, including private healthcare, life insurance and pension.

Most importantly, you'll shape the science, not simply write about it.

If you're an experienced medical writer looking for your next challenge — and want to work somewhere we value your scientific expertise, ideas, and ambition — we'd love to hear from you.

Join Ashfield MedComms and help turn scientific insight into communication that makes a difference.

Don't meet every job requirement? That's okay! Our company is dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. If you're excited about this role, but your experience doesn't perfectly fit every qualification, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right person for this role or others.
