About the Role
We are seeking a specialized Voice AI Integration Engineer to design, integrate, and optimize next-generation telephony and conversational AI stack. This is a full-time, remote position open to mid-senior and senior candidates across Latin America.
In this role, you will serve as the technical bridge connecting cloud telephony platforms (RingCentral), conversational AI engines (Amelia, SoundHound), and core clinical infrastructure (Epic EHR). You will architect scalable, real-time voice pipelines, configure intelligent agent workflows, and ensure secure, low-latency communication between AI conversationalists and electronic health record databases.
What You Will Do
- Voice AI & Telephony Orchestration: Architect, deploy, and maintain end-to-end integration workflows connecting RingCentral cloud communications with enterprise conversational AI platforms (Amelia, SoundHound).
- Deep Epic EHR Integration: Connect AI voice interactions directly to Epic using modern standards (FHIR APIs, SMART on FHIR, HL7 messaging) to automate scheduling, patient authentication, triage routing, and real-time clinical documentation.
- Real-Time Audio & Telephony Engineering: Optimize SIP, WebSockets, WebRTC, and media streaming protocols to deliver low-latency, natural, and reliable voice interactions across clinical and patient-facing channels.
- Conversational Flow & NLU Optimization: Partner with AI engineers to tune natural language understanding (NLU), speech-to-text (STT), and text-to-speech (TTS) models within Amelia and SoundHound for healthcare-specific terminology and multi-intent patient conversations.
- Security & HIPAA Compliance: Ensure all voice streams, telephony logs, and API exchanges strictly adhere to HIPAA, HITRUST, and NIST security standards, with zero unauthorized persistence of Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work directly with US-based engineering leads, clinical operations teams, and vendor architects to troubleshoot complex integration points, monitor voice system performance, and drive continuous optimization.
What You Bring
Experience
- 4+ years of production experience with backend systems using Python, Node.js, TypeScript, or Java.
Technical Expertise
- Enterprise Conversational AI Platforms: Hands-on integration experience with enterprise voice AI engines such as Amelia and SoundHound (or comparable enterprise conversational AI platforms).
- Cloud Telephony & UCaaS: Direct experience working with RingCentral APIs, SDKs, Webhooks, and SIP/telephony routing infrastructure.
- EHR Interoperability: Proven experience building integrations with Epic (or other major EHRs) using FHIR (R4), SMART on FHIR, and HL7 messaging protocols.
- Real-Time Protocols: Strong understanding of WebSockets, WebRTC, SIP, and streaming gRPC protocols for real-time audio handling.
- Cloud & DevOps: Experience deploying containerized applications (Docker, Kubernetes) on AWS or Azure within automated CI/CD pipelines.
Language Proficiency
- Advanced/Fluent English (C1/C2) for daily technical collaboration with Boston-based technology and operational teams.
Soft Skills & Competencies
- System Integration Intuition: Exceptional diagnostic skills for tracking and debugging multi-vendor voice and data pipelines.
- Patient & Clinician-Centric Focus: A deep commitment to building seamless, accessible, and empathetic voice experiences for diverse patient populations.
- Agile & Autonomous: Ability to manage integration projects independently in a remote-first, distributed environment.
- Effective Technical Communication: Ability to translate technical voice architecture details clearly to both software developers and operational healthcare leaders.
