About the Role

We are seeking a Salesforce Enterprise Architect to hold the shape of Salesforce within a client’s wider enterprise architecture: where Salesforce is the system of record and where it is not, how it fits the application and data landscape, what the roadmap is, and what it will cost to own. This is an advisory role with long horizons and senior audiences, and it is measured on decisions that hold up years later.

What You Will Do

Enterprise Architecture

• Define system-of-record boundaries between Salesforce, ERP, data platform and surrounding applications
• Own the Salesforce capability and licensing roadmap against the client’s business strategy
• Assess and rationalise org strategy: single org, multi-org, consolidation or separation

Strategy and Advisory

• Build business cases and total-cost-of-ownership models for platform investment
• Advise executive and CIO-level stakeholders, and present to steering committees
• Run architecture assessments and produce remediation roadmaps that are actually sequenced

Governance 

• Establish architecture governance, standards and review forums across programmes
• Arbitrate between programme-level designs that conflict at the enterprise level

Vendor and Portfolio

• Evaluate AppExchange and third-party products against build alternatives
• Manage architectural dependencies across a portfolio of concurrent programmes

What You Bring

Experience

• 12+ years in enterprise IT with 5+ years of enterprise-level Salesforce architecture ownership

Breadth across:

• The Salesforce product portfolio and its licensing and commercial model
• Enterprise integration and data architecture, including MDM and event-driven patterns
• Enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, applied rather than recited
• Security, compliance and regulatory architecture relevant to the client’s sector
• Salesforce Certified Technical Architect or Application plus System Architect required
• Demonstrated experience owning a multi-year platform roadmap through at least one strategy change
• Credibility with CIO and executive audiences, with examples
• Professional English — able to run requirement and design conversations directly with North American stakeholders

What We’re Looking For

This is a contributor role, not a task-execution role. The team already has people who deliver what they are handed. What it needs is people who question whether the right thing is being built, and say so.

• Holds a point of view and states it, including to senior stakeholders and including after a decision has been made when new evidence warrants reopening it.
• Asks why a process, data model, or delivery standard exists before extending it, rather than replicating an incumbent pattern because it is the incumbent pattern.
• Surfaces risk, ambiguity, and weak requirements at the moment they are noticed — not at the sprint review, and not at go-live.
• Works past the assigned ticket: proposes better approaches, improves what sits around the work, and leaves the team’s practice stronger than it was found.
• Argues from evidence and changes position on evidence. Comfortable being wrong in public, uncomfortable staying quiet.

Success Indicators

• System-of-record boundaries are documented, agreed and respected by programmes
•  Platform roadmap decisions survive the next budget cycle without reversal
• Programme-level architecture conflicts are resolved before they become delivery problems
• Executive stakeholders use this role for platform investment decisions

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field — or equivalent experience
