Position Summary

The Finance team at Assured Guaranty is seeking a summer intern to join for a 10 week assignment. This position will assist with tax return preparation as well as financial statement disclosures.

Primary Responsibilities

The Intern will assist with the following tasks:

 

  • Assist with the preparation of GAAP and insurance statutory (SSAP #10) income tax provisions and supporting documentation
  • Assist with the preparation of federal and state income tax returns and related work papers including M-1/M-3 tax adjustment schedules for insurance and non-insurance companies
  • Assist in preparing state premium and municipal tax returns
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly federal and state estimated tax payment calculations along with extensions and related filings

Required Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • A highly motivated self-starter and successful in a team-oriented setting
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • While any discipline will be considered, candidates studying finance or, accounting will be prioritized

The salary for the position is expected to be from $30 per hour to $32 per hour. The actual salary will depend on various factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s experience and credentials, salary expectations of applicable candidates, and other applicable market conditions. This position provides a weekly all-firm catered breakfast and lunch (Tuesday and Wednesday) as well as intern-specific meals and events.

Note: Housing stipend may be available for interns who will be residing outside of the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut) for the duration of the summer internship program (June 8 – July 30).

IAR: An accounting role is a role in which a person is in a position to, or does, exercise more than minimal influence over the contents of the accounting records or over anyone who prepares the accounting records, such as individuals in clerical positions responsible for accounting records (e.g., payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, sales) as well as individuals who report to people in financial reporting oversight roles (assistant controller, assistant treasurer, manager of internal audit, manager of financial reporting). Examples of such position are when the person is a member of the board of directors or similar management or governing body, chief executive officer, president, chief financial officer, chief operating officer, general counsel, chief accounting officer, controller, director of internal audit, director of financial reporting, treasurer, director of tax, or any equivalent position.

Close Personal Relationship: A relationship that involves two individuals who (i) are members of the same family; (ii) share an intimate, sexual encounter or ongoing romantic or intimate relationship; (iii) share an ongoing friendship which demonstrates an emotional connection that supersedes the working, collegial relationship as the connection between two people and may cause others to feel excluded and question their objectivity, independence of judgment and fairness; or (iv) provide each other with domestic support, financial support or loan, employment or volunteer work.
