Optical Engineer Intern

Responsibilities:
  • Test and verify that optical devices, such as optical transceivers or optical systems, meet performance specifications and industry standards. 
  • Work with the design and validation engineer to create and execute validation plans and analyze results to identify issues and provide feedback to design teams. 
  • Write scripts to automate test execution and collect module performance data
  • Implement data storage and logging infrastructure for traceability
  • Perform initial data analysis (e.g., signal integrity, power, thermal, or optical performance) and summarize results for the engineering team
  • Document test plans, schematics, and software in a reproducible, maintainable format
  • Present findings and recommendations to the team in a clear and structured manner
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Coursework or project experience in PCB design, Cadence CAD, or Simulation tools
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB for data collection and analysis
  • Comfort with basic lab equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, etc.)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to work hands-on in a lab environment
Preferred Qualification:
  • Experience with test automation frameworks (e.g., PyVISA, LabVIEW, or custom Python libraries)
  • Exposure to signal integrity, optics, or communication systems
  • Previous internship or project work involving both optical and electrical design
  • Strong written documentation and data analysis skills
