AI Product Management Intern

San Jose, CA

AI Product Manager Intern

About Astera Labs

Astera Labs builds purpose-built connectivity solutions for rack-scale AI infrastructure. Our teams collaborate across functions to solve complex problems and deliver impact. As an intern, you’ll contribute to meaningful work alongside experienced colleagues and receive mentorship as you build practical skills.

About the role

Astera Labs’ Applied AI team works to accelerate business outcomes through the use of AI as the company scales. We’re looking for a product-minded intern who can combine business judgment, user empathy, and hands-on execution. You’ll partner with cross-functional teams to discover high-value AI opportunities, define requirements, and help move selected solutions from concept to pilot and adoption.

This role is intended for a candidate ready to take on broader product responsibilities than a typical implementation internship while remaining comfortable prototyping and testing solutions directly. You’ll work with stakeholders and technical partners to make trade-offs, define measurable outcomes, and ensure solutions address real user needs.

What you’ll do

  • Conduct stakeholder interviews and workflow discovery across business functions to understand user needs, pain points, and desired outcomes.
  • Evaluate and prioritize AI product opportunities based on user value, business impact, feasibility, risk, and dependencies.
  • Translate needs into clear product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, and a scoped pilot or MVP.
  • Collaborate with engineering, IT, security, data, and business teams to align on solution design, dependencies, milestones, and decision points.
  • Build or configure lightweight prototypes using AI tools such as Glean or Claude Code, and bring prototypes to users for feedback.
  • Define success measures—such as adoption, quality, cycle time, time saved, user satisfaction, or risk reduction—and use results to recommend next steps.
  • Help plan testing, rollout, communications, documentation, and ongoing feedback for selected solutions.
  • Keep product decisions, assumptions, risks, and learnings visible to the team; incorporate privacy, security, responsible AI, and human oversight throughout.
  • Present concise updates and recommendations to technical and business audiences.

What we’re looking for

  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in business, technology, engineering, information systems, or a related field; candidates with equivalent product-building experience are also encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated interest in AI-enabled products and experience using AI tools in practical work, academic projects, or prototypes.
  • Strong business and analytical judgment; able to connect user problems to measurable outcomes and make clear prioritization trade-offs.
  • Ability to turn ambiguous needs into structured requirements, a manageable scope, and an actionable plan.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Collaborative, proactive working style and comfort navigating uncertainty and changing information.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including managing priorities, dependencies, decisions, and follow-ups across multiple workstreams.
  • Careful judgment around data privacy, security, responsible AI, and the limits of AI-generated outputs.

Preferred qualifications

  • MBA candidate or graduate student with relevant experience; an MBA is preferred, not required.
  • Prior internship, project, or work experience in product management, business analysis, consulting, operations, or technology.
  • Experience writing product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, roadmaps, or success metrics.
  • Hands-on experience with Glean, Claude Code, LLM-based tools, AI agents, or workflow automation.
  • Familiarity with prototyping, data analysis, experimentation, or evaluating AI solution quality.

What you’ll gain

  • Experience shaping an AI product opportunity from discovery and requirements through prototype, pilot, and measurement.
  • Mentorship in product judgment, cross-functional execution, and responsible AI adoption.
  • Practice presenting product decisions and outcomes to business and technical stakeholders.

Internship experience and compensation

This is a paid, hourly U.S. internship. The applicable hourly rate is determined as part of the offer process and specified in the offer letter, depending on education level ranges form $35/hour to $55/hour. U.S. interns currently receive a $500-per-week housing/relocation stipend for the duration of the internship. Interns participate in Early Career programming, including technical and professional-development sessions, community events, and an end-of-program project presentation.
