A-TEK is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Systems Engineer – Level III to support our federal client. This individual will provide expert-level systems engineering, operations, and modernization support for a hybrid infrastructure environment serving over 3,000 client end users. The role involves the design, implementation, and optimization of networked systems, servers, cloud platforms, storage environments, and associated software and security components. The Systems Engineer will also serve as a technical SME in planning and supporting high-availability, secure environments aligned with federal IT and security standards.
The role is hybrid requiring the ability to work on-site in Bethesda, MD. It requires the ability to obtain and retain a Public Trust Level 2 clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the configuration, administration, and optimization of enterprise infrastructure components including Windows/Linux servers, storage platforms (SAN/NAS), VMware ESXi, and cloud-hosted resources.
- Support lifecycle operations such as server upgrades, patch management, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.
- Oversee physical and logical network hardware changes, ensuring compliance with federal security protocols.
- Monitor and assess system performance, conduct root cause analysis, and remediate complex network, hardware, and application issues.
- Collaborate with Infrastructure Branch, Application Development, Cybersecurity, and End User Support teams on system designs and deployment strategies.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting support for virtualization, domain services, VoIP infrastructure, cloud-based applications, and endpoint configurations.
- Support system integration and deployment activities across client systems, ensuring system integrity in both production and disaster recovery environments.
- Participate in technical design sessions and architecture reviews, contributing recommendations for modernization and cloud transformation initiatives.
- Create and maintain system documentation, diagrams, SOPs, change management records, and system compliance evidence.
- Train and mentor junior engineers and provide technical consultations to client-designated staff as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; OR seven (7) years of experience in systems engineering or enterprise infrastructure support.
- Minimum five (5) years of hands-on experience in enterprise server administration, system integration, and network troubleshooting in a Windows and/or Linux environment.
- Strong experience with enterprise tools and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, Group Policy, and VoIP systems.
- Demonstrated experience with VMware (vSphere, vCenter), hyper-converged infrastructure, and SAN/NAS storage management.
- Familiarity with IT service management (ITSM), configuration management, and change control in a federal or enterprise IT environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to obtain or maintain Public Trust Tier 2 security clearance.

- CompTIA Security+ Certified Professional
- Process & Frameworks:
- ITIL v3 Foundation Certification or higher
The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $170,000 based on experience and certifications.
