Associate 2D Game Artist

Vancouver

The Job

A Thinking Ape is seeking an Associate 2D Game Artist to craft visually compelling, high-quality game art content for Party in My Dorm, a social strategy mobile game with a college theme. In this role, you’ll take ownership of game event art production from ideation to final delivery, while supporting broader creative initiatives and contributing to the game’s continued success alongside a cross-functional team.

This position is ideal for an artist with strong communication and time management skills who is excited to work with a team that values innovation, creativity, and data-informed decision making. An interest in mobile games, pop culture trends, and fashion is a requirement for this role.

The Team

Party in my Dorm is a social strategy game with a college theme. On the surface it has the feeling of a casual chat room, but for those who get deeply into it, it unfolds into one of the most hardcore mobile games on the market. It has hundreds of thousands of highly engaged players, co-op PVE raids, a true trade economy, PVP wars, unique experimental events, highly customizable content, and a narrative story engine; all built into one game.

What You’ll Work On

  • Create reference materials and 2D art assets for game events.
  • Prepare and present event concepts to an internal team of cross-functional stakeholders, using player feedback, event performance data, and research into pop culture trends to guide creative choices.
  • Work closely with the Creative team, Game Design, Community, and Product teams to ensure alignment with creative briefs and the broader game vision throughout production.
  • Provide feedback to outsourcing partners and apply final polish on incoming assets, ensuring that final deliverables meet all quality and style standards.

What We’re Looking For

  • A 2D art portfolio that demonstrates creativity, versatility, and strong art fundamentals—particularly human anatomy, character design, and colour theory.
  • Experience creating 2D game art assets, ideally as part of a live-ops or mobile studio environment.
  • Experience working in Adobe Photoshop.
  • Advanced time management skills, with the ability to plan ahead, manage production risks, and deliver consistent results while ensuring production deadlines are met.
  • Strong communication skills, with experience collaborating in a cross-functional setting.
  • Extensive experience with giving and receiving constructive feedback, including utilizing feedback in order to achieve stronger results.
  • An interest in creating content informed by fashion and pop culture trends.

What Sets You Apart

  • You’re a self-starter who manages your time wisely and thrives in a flexible, remote environment.
  • You’re a proactive communicator who takes responsibility for getting the information you need to get the job done right.
  • You’re curious and driven, consistently looking for ways to improve tools, processes, and the game as a whole.
  • You enjoy playing mobile games and are enthusiastic about Party in My Dorm!
