The Corporate Safety Manager will plan, direct, coordinate and oversee Safety activities for APS, specifically the development and implementation of efficient operations and cost-effective systems to meet current and future needs of the organization. The Corporate Safety Manager will provide leadership for the department that is crucial in establishing relationships and marketing the APS brand in a way that is positive, honest, and professional. This position is responsible for assisting in the operation of a department. An individual in this position will be expected to perform additional job-related responsibilities and duties throughout the facility as assigned and or as necessary.

Essential Functions: An individual must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Manage the organization's safety programs, policies, and procedures to promote occupational safety and prevent workplace accidents.
  • Build a comprehensive Safety Training Program specific to our industry in conjunction with HR and Operations to provide a world class new hire experience and growth paths for existing employees.
  • Review safety reports and metrics to evaluate program performance, identify trends, and ensure operational alignment with safety objectives.
  • Monitor daily operations to provide regulatory oversight and ensure safety controls, processes, and policies are being utilized effectively.
  • Develop auditing frameworks and standards to assess safety risks and maintain compliance with organizational and regulatory standards and requirements.
  • Oversee incident investigations to determine root causes, develop preventative measures, and prepare safety reports for senior management.
  • Analyze safety metrics to evaluate and track program performance, identify trends, and ensure operational alignment with safety objectives.
  • Implement processes and standards to inspect and audit the organization's procedures, facilities, and equipment and ensure compliance with safety regulations and requirements.
  • Organize safety trainings, meetings, and orientations to ensure adequate understanding of risks and safety protocols.
  • Assist with Safety Performance Subcontractor Questionnaire for job approvals.
  • Handle all OSHA related issues such as inspections, yearly reports, job site posters, citations, hearings, etc.
  • Regularly reviews worker compensation claims data with HR for possible employer modification rate adjustments.
  • Maintain and administer the Company SDS Portal
  • Support a performance-based culture, both team and individual, to assure continuous improvement and alignment with enterprise vision, mission, and objectives.
  • Drive employee engagement, training, and development in the key areas of safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Provide direct oversight for the field team including supervisors and technicians.
  • Develop and manage the division budget.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance across a range of federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Ensure that all APS quality and safety standards, specifications and policies are met, drive continuous improvements, and collaborate with the team to drive efficiencies.
  • Develop a culture based on open/honest dialogue and involvement with all team members that demonstrates the value of their input and engagement in improving performance.
  • Drive a culture of high performance and accountability in employee and site safety as well as other aspects of the business.

Job Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related field such as Environmental Health and Safety or other related field however, an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • 5 years of Safety experience in the Trades specifically, with increasing responsibilities.
  • Safety Certifications such as BCSP Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety Manager-Construction (CSMC), SMP, OSHA 30.
  • Previous work experience in Pipe, Construction or Engineering, Pipe Cleaning, Inspection and Rehab or other related trades is required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills
  • Experience with PowerPoint and Excel
  • Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees and division managers
  • Prior experience leading, coaching, and mentoring others.
  • Prior experience supporting construction and field employee groups, including strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and self-initiative.
  • Commitment to our “open door” policy and regular contact with all field employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach managers and supervisors to use company practices for maximum effectiveness.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills; high quality document and report preparation.
  • Experience working in an entrepreneurial environment which requires strong multi-tasking abilities.
  • Key leadership competencies in addition to high ethical standards, strong values, integrity, drive to deliver results, pride in personal and team performance, decision quality, building effective teams, and action orientation are fundamental imperatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Ability to manage and direct a group of workers.
  • Ability to supervise, counsel and mediate; ability to persuade, convince, influence and train others.
  • Ability to advise and interpret on the application of policies, procedures, and standards to specific situations.
  • Ability to explain, demonstrate and clarify to others within well-established policies, procedures, and standards.

Physical Activities: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, use hands and arms to handle, feel and reach, push, pull bend and twist. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl through narrow, enclosed or elevated spaces; move up and down stairs. Visually inspect and locate equipment and products. Read information, often in small print. Enter and locate information on a computer system or communication device. Write documents, reports etc. using a writing instrument (e.g., pencil, pen) or computer. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: This position is based in both an office and field environment. The Office environment has moderate to low noise levels and is typically sedentary. The field environment is subject to weather, noise, uneven ground, and varying weather conditions where PPE is required with a full understanding of all company Safety Protocols. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to varying temperatures, work areas that may be slippery and or wet, near equipment and mechanical moving parts. This position requires both work indoors and outdoors for extended periods of time. The position requires travel to job sites and other APS division locations, occasional work overnight, weekends, and rotating/varying shifts.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $XX,000.00 - $XX,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
