How You Will Make an Impact

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Director of Electrical Engineering to lead electrical design efforts across multiple Power Distribution and Microgrid projects. This role requires deep expertise in power systems engineering, including generator assets (portable and fixed), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and switchgear design. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to assess feasibility, lead complex design efforts, and eventually scale systems to support large-scale power plants (e.g., 29MW using distributed generation).

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of power distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, protection relays, and circuit breakers.
• Oversee the creation and review of single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and Bill of Materials (BOMs).
• Collaborate with vendors, EPCs, and contractors to ensure proper commissioning, functional acceptance testing (FAT), and manufacturing testing.
• Evaluate and qualify subcontractors for design and construction of power distribution interconnections.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, especially in power system design fundamentals.
• Interface with customers to understand load requirements and design systems that safely and efficiently feed those loads.
• Support interconnect applications and coordinate with electrical and gas utilities.
• Lead efforts to design and build scalable power plants using modular generator systems.
• Ensure compliance with UL 2200, NFPA 70, and other relevant codes and standards.
• Troubleshoot and provide field support for deployed systems, including signal testing and functional validation.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with design engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and inspection teams.
• Assist in building CAPEX budgets and support project management efforts.
• Participate in safety meetings and ensure adherence to all safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in power systems engineering, with a focus on three-phase AC power, switch-mode converters, and electrical enclosure design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and electrical test equipment.
• Strong understanding of generator systems, including output characteristics and connection box configurations.
• Experience designing systems for data centers and other critical infrastructure.
• Ability to interpret vendor documentation and translate it into actionable design plans.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven leadership and supervisory capabilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with UL 2200 compliance.
• Familiarity with data center backup systems and distributed generation.
• Hands-on experience with commissioning, FAT, and field troubleshooting.
• Ability to teach and mentor others in power system design, including interpreting and creating single-line diagrams.
• Experience designing scalable power plants using modular generator units.
