Electrical Integration Engineer - Firmware Focus
About The Role:
Atomic Machines is hiring Electrical Integration Engineers (Firmware Focus) to bring up, integrate, and troubleshoot the electrical and software-controlled subsystems used in our custom manufacturing equipment. This is a hands-on role at the boundary of electronics, embedded software, sensors, actuators, wiring, and machine controls. You will spend significant time working directly with physical hardware at the bench and on machines.
You will own the integration of defined modules and subsystems, developing diagnostic software and test scripts, bringing up hardware interfaces, validating sensors and actuators, and resolving failures that may span electronics, firmware, configuration, interconnects, and mechanisms. You will work closely with electrical, embedded systems, software, and mechanical engineers to turn new hardware into functioning, well-understood, and maintainable systems.
What You’ll Do:
- Own bring-up and integration for software-controlled machine modules and subsystems.
- Develop Python device interfaces, diagnostic software, test scripts, and validation tools.
- Integrate and validate sensors, actuators, microcontrollers, and common communication interfaces.
- Troubleshoot failures spanning electronics, firmware, wiring, configuration, and mechanical behavior.
- Define bring-up procedures, expected measurements, diagnostics, and subsystem acceptance tests.
What You’ll Need:
- 2+ years of relevant engineering experience, or equivalent substantial hands-on experience.
- Experience building, bringing up, or troubleshooting electromechanical hardware.
- Ability to read schematics, block diagrams, pinouts, interface documents, and component datasheets.
- Experience bringing up electrical modules and interfacing with sensors, actuators, microcontrollers, and common communication buses.
- Debugging hardware/firmware interactions using schematics, datasheets, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and debuggers.
- Ability to write clear Python software for device communication, testing, diagnostics, and hardware validation.
- Strong documentation and cross-functional communication skills.
- A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field (associate's, bachelor's, or trade/technical program), or equivalent hands-on experience.
Bonus Points For:
- Experience with robotics, automation equipment, scientific instruments, or other complex electromechanical systems.
- Familiarity with motor control, encoders, real-time systems, or industrial communication protocols.
- Experience with C/C++, embedded Linux, or microcontroller firmware.
The compensation for this position also includes equity and benefits.
