Compute Technician

San Francisco, CA

Who we are

Atoms is building the machines that power the next era of progress.

Over the last decade, software has transformed the digital world. But the physical world, where food is made, minerals are mined, goods are moved, and industries are run, remains far less intelligent, far less efficient, and far more constrained. We’re changing that.

Atoms builds Physical AI— real-world robots for the industries that move civilization forward, starting with food, mining, and transport. Our systems are designed to understand, predict, and control the real world with precision, turning complex physical operations into something more reliable, more scalable, and more productive.

This work requires more than robotics. It requires deep integration across hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate. We don’t just build machines in a lab. We deploy them into real environments, operate them, learn from them, and improve them until they work at scale.

We are roboticists, engineers, operators, and builders. We believe the next great technology companies will not only transform information, but the physical systems that shape everyday life.

If you want to work on hard problems with real-world impact, join us.

About the Role

As a Compute Technician, you will build the custom compute units that power autonomous vehicles. Working at a production bench from documented work instructions, you will assemble electronic and mechanical components into finished compute boxes, load software onto them, and verify quality before they move to vehicle installation. This is precision bench work with daily build targets in a scaling production environment.

What you’ll do

  • Assemble compute units at a production station per work instructions: install circuit boards, compute modules, storage, and internal electronic components into enclosures
  • Perform careful cable dressing, connector seating, and torqued fastener installation to specification
  • Follow ESD-safe handling procedures for all boards and electronic components
  • Perform in-process and final quality checks; record serial numbers and results for traceability
  • Pull parts from kitted bins and carts, verify kit completeness, and flag missing, wrong, or damaged parts before starting a build
  • Meet daily build targets while maintaining quality standards
  • Follow standard operating procedures and flag gaps, errors, or improvement ideas from the bench
  • Keep the workstation clean, organized, and stocked

What we’re looking for

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Background in box build, PC assembly, avionics, or electromechanical assembly
  • Experience in an ESD-controlled or electronics manufacturing environment, electronics assembly, hardware assembly, or precision production work
  • Comfortable with hand tools, torque drivers, and small fasteners
  • Ability to read and follow assembly documentation, diagrams, and checklists
  • Familiarity with flashing or imaging devices, or basic command-line comfort
  • Experience with quality inspection and traceability documentation
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive precision tasks with consistent quality

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and work at a bench for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to handle small components and perform fine motor tasks throughout the workday
