Shop Manager

Dallas, TX

Who we are

Atoms is building the machines that power the next era of progress.

Over the last decade, software has transformed the digital world. But the physical world, where food is made, minerals are mined, goods are moved, and industries are run, remains far less intelligent, far less efficient, and far more constrained. We’re changing that.

Atoms builds Physical AI— real-world robots for the industries that move civilization forward, starting with food, mining, and transport. Our systems are designed to understand, predict, and control the real world with precision, turning complex physical operations into something more reliable, more scalable, and more productive.

This work requires more than robotics. It requires deep integration across hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate. We don’t just build machines in a lab. We deploy them into real environments, operate them, learn from them, and improve them until they work at scale.

We are roboticists, engineers, operators, and builders. We believe the next great technology companies will not only transform information, but the physical systems that shape everyday life.

If you want to work on hard problems with real-world impact, join us.

About the role

We’re looking for a resourceful, hands-on Shop Manager with strong technical expertise and a builder-oriented mindset to lead maintenance operations and support future fleet growth beyond the market. This role owns the full maintenance lifecycle, from facility setup and operational buildout to daily shop operations, fleet uptime, and continuous improvement. You will build scalable maintenance operations from the ground up, develop high-performing technician teams, drive fleet reliability and readiness, manage vendors and maintenance KPIs, and establish best-in-class EV fleet operations focused on safety, compliance, efficiency, and vehicle availability. This role is critical to ensuring our fleet remains safe, operational, and ready to support day-to-day transportation operations.

What you'll do

At first, you're a hands-on builder who thrives in the ambiguity of building and scaling maintenance operations from zero to one. You take ownership of fleet uptime, operational readiness, and reliability while balancing speed, safety, compliance, and quality standards. You bring deep technical fluency across EV platforms, high-voltage systems, diagnostics, charging infrastructure, and modern fleet operations. You're equally comfortable turning a wrench, troubleshooting operational inefficiencies, reviewing KPIs, or communicating fleet readiness metrics to leadership. You are a data-driven operator and strong problem solver who builds scalable systems, drives accountability, and performs well in fast-moving, high-growth environments. You build strong teams, develop technicians, and lead from the front while maintaining tight control over vendors, tools, documentation, and fleet maintenance operations.

Build & Scale the Operation

  • Build and scale maintenance operations from zero to one, including facility setup, shop workflows, tooling and equipment procurement, EV charging integration, inventory systems, and operational infrastructure required to support a rapidly growing fleet.
  • Design and implement scalable maintenance programs, SOPs, preventive maintenance standards, and fleet readiness processes that support high vehicle uptime, operational continuity, and future multi-market expansion.
  • Establish operational discipline across the shop through clear accountability, performance expectations, maintenance workflows, escalation paths, and technician standards that create a high-performing, execution-focused culture.

Lead Fleet Readiness & Maintenance Operations

  • Own overall fleet uptime, operational readiness, and maintenance execution across Atoms’s EV fleet, balancing operational urgency with safety, repair quality, compliance, and long-term vehicle reliability.
  • Utilize fleet systems, telematics platforms, maintenance software, and operational KPIs to reduce downtime, improve repair turnaround times, optimize scheduling workflows, and proactively identify fleet performance trends.
  • Lead all maintenance and repair operations including diagnostics, preventive maintenance, high-voltage systems, charging infrastructure coordination, vendor repairs, ADAS-related workflows, and complex operational problem solving in a fast-paced environment.

Own Safety, Compliance & Operational Standards

  • Lead a safety-first maintenance culture while ensuring full compliance with CPUC/TCP, TNC, DOT, CHP, ADA, EV fleet regulations, hazardous materials standards, and all applicable federal, state, and local transportation compliance requirements.
  • Maintain audit-ready maintenance records, inspection documentation, repair histories, warranty tracking, and regulatory files while enforcing high standards around shop organization, PPE usage, hazardous materials handling, and tool accountability.
  • Maintain accountability for maintenance budgets, operational cost controls, vendor performance, inventory management, and repair quality while ensuring vehicles consistently return to service safely and on time.

Develop & Lead the Team

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop high-performing technicians and maintenance personnel capable of supporting a fast-growing EV fleet operation with high operational expectations.
  • Build a strong culture of ownership, urgency, accountability, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement through hands-on leadership, technical coaching, performance management, and skills development.
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, safety, compliance, claims, procurement, and leadership teams to support fleet readiness, operational scalability, and long-term business growth.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of experience leading shop operations within EV fleets, high-voltage vehicle environments, AV operations, rental car fleets, or other fast-paced transportation and mobility businesses where managing large-scale fleet readiness, concurrent repairs, and minimizing vehicle downtime are critical to operational success.
  • 3+ years of experience directly supervising and managing a team of 3 or more technicians in a commercial fleet maintenance environment.
  • Fleet management and software proficiency - Experience utilizing fleet management software systems (such as Fleetio, Samsara, and Google Workspace/Microsoft Office Suite or similar platforms) to track vehicle maintenance schedules, manage work orders and parts inventory, generate reports, and handle daily communication and operational documentation.
  • Regulatory compliance experience. Demonstrated experience managing transportation and fleet compliance requirements across EV, rideshare, rental, or commercial fleet operations, including vehicle inspection records, maintenance documentation, safety compliance tracking, registration management, and audit readiness. Ability to speak to preparing for or supporting state, federal, or insurance-related audits while maintaining accurate and operationally sound fleet maintenance records.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing through periods of rapid organizational growth or major management/structural changes
  • Valid license with ability to operate passenger fleet vehicles
  • ASE certifications or manufacturer/dealer technical training credentials – KIA Certified is a plus
  • Knowledge of TCP/TNC regulations and State/Local commercial vehicle compliance requirements
  • Additional industry certifications (EPA 609, OSHA safety training, or specialized equipment certifications)
