Job Description
A client of Attain Partners is seeking a Senior Red Hat Linux Administrator consultant. The Senior Red Hat Linux Administrator will manage and optimize the client’s Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring system stability, security, and performance while supporting a range of enterprise applications. This role requires advanced expertise in Linux administration, automation, troubleshooting, and security best practices.
Work will be performed in a hybrid setting each week, Monday through Friday, as follows:
- Two days remote at a suitable off-site location
- Three days on site in Annapolis, MD
Job Responsibilities
- Installing, configuring, and maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers across development, testing, and production environments.
- Performing system upgrades, patch management, and security hardening to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues to minimize downtime and optimize efficiency.
- Implementing automation scripts using Ansible, Bash, or Python to streamline system administration tasks.
- Configuring and maintaining Red Hat Satellite, Identity Management (IdM), and other Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) ecosystem tools.
- Collaborating with security teams to ensure systems are protected against vulnerabilities and comply with security policies.
- Maintaining and optimizing storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Supporting application teams by providing guidance on best practices for Linux-based deployments.
- Maintaining documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Participating in on-call support and incident resolution activities as required.
- Setup Network File Server (NFS) and mount points.
- Configuring Chron jobs for both systems and applications.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience with working in a complex networked system environment with strong networking.
- Experience with administering Unix (AIX) IBM pSeries systems.
- Experience with administering systems including, but not limited to, the following applications
- Oracle WebLogic Servers
- Oracle Database Servers
- Progress 4GL/Database Servers/OpenEdge
- Apache Web Servers
- vSphere hosted RHEL Servers
- Rubrik backup systems
- Oracle Database backups
- PeopleSoft
- Mobius
- Elastic Search
- Oracle OBI
- CVS (Concurrent Version System)
- Experience with Red Hat performance tuning.
- Experience with load balancing, partitioning, back-up/recovery, and disaster recovery.
- Experience with working in an environment that requires 24/7 system availability.
- Experience with application development.
- Experience with Red Hat Support.
- Electronic Imaging Support.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external personnel.
- Ability to demonstrate leadership skills.
- Ability to interface with users and helpdesk for day-to-day support.
- Ability to provide Backup/recovery and networking methodologies.
- Ability to troubleshoot at the Operating System (OS), database, and application levels.
- Knowledge of Red Hat administration including configuration and tuning.
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree, or postgraduate degree, in engineering, computer science, or related field
- Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator. Certification must be issued by Red Hat and include the resource’s valid certification number.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience as a Red Hat system administrator.
- 10+ years of experience administering Unix (AIX) IBM pSeries systems.
- 15+ years of experience in the Information Technology (IT) field.
