Director, Marketing and Merchandise

Attain Sports owns and manages four baseball teams: the Baltimore Orioles Double-A affiliate Chesapeake Baysox, the Baltimore Orioles High-A affiliate Frederick Keys, the MLB Draft League Aberdeen IronBirds, and the Atlantic League Professional Baseball Club Spire City Ghost Hounds. Additionally, Attain Sports is an owner of the United Soccer League (USL) Championship Club Loudoun United FC.

 

Attain Sports is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and collaborative professional to fill a critical leadership role overseeing marketing and merchandise across three baseball teams: the Chesapeake Baysox and Frederick Keys, the Double-A and High-A affiliates of the Baltimore Orioles, and the Aberdeen IronBirds, members of the MLB Draft League. This position reports to the Chief Marketing Officer of Attain Sports.

This position plays a vital role in shaping the fan experience, driving revenue growth, and enhancing brand visibility across the Attain Sports portfolio. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader who thrives in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and understands that the best outcomes are achieved by bringing the right people together. They will bring hands-on operational expertise and a partnership mindset, capable of managing complex projects across multiple organizations and building the cross-functional relationships that drive results in a fast-paced environment.

This is an onsite role that will require travel between the team sites and Attain Sports headquarters. Homesite office options include Bowie, MD, Frederick, MD or McLean, VA. 

 

Job Responsibilities

Marketing

  • Lead the strategy and day-to-day execution of marketing efforts across all three teams—the Chesapeake Baysox, Aberdeen IronBirds, and Frederick Keys
  • Manage website content strategy and updates across all three teams, ensuring consistent branding, timely promotions, and an optimized user experience
  • Oversee Marketing use of CRM platforms (e.g., HubSpot) across all three teams, including email marketing, newsletters, lead capture forms, automation workflows, and database segmentation
  • Develop, execute, and report on email and digital marketing campaigns to drive ticket sales, merchandise revenue, and fan engagement
  • Direct media planning, buying, and performance tracking across the portfolio while providing actionable insights to optimize campaign effectiveness
  • Analyze marketing metrics, consumer insights, and fan data to refine strategies and improve campaign performance
  • Partner with ticket sales, sponsorship, and community relations teams to develop integrated campaigns that maximize attendance, increase brand awareness, and deepen fan engagement
  • Collaborate with the Director of Sales for Attain Sports to drive integrated campaigns that support ticket sales and overall brand growth across all three teams
  • Manage marketing budgets and provide regular reporting to senior leadership on ROI, campaign performance, and key business objectives

Merchandise

  • Lead merchandise strategy and retail operations across all three teams, including inventory management, product selection, pricing, and sales performance
  • Collaborate with vendors, manufacturers, and designers to develop merchandise offerings aligned with team branding and fan preferences
  • Ensure retail displays and merchandise environments at all stadiums meet high standards for presentation, accessibility, and sales optimization
  • Lead e-commerce strategy, digital promotions, and online retail initiatives to grow merchandise sales and deepen fan engagement
  • Manage merchandise budgets, forecasting, and procurement to maintain healthy inventory turnover and minimize shrinkage
  • Develop and implement portfolio-wide merchandise initiatives and operational best practices across all three teams

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Sports Management, or a related field required; Master's degree strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in marketing, merchandise management, or related roles, preferably within professional sports or live entertainment
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate teams and foster collaborative partnerships
  • Experience managing budgets and analyzing financial and marketing data to support strategic decision-making
  • Proficiency with CRM systems (HubSpot experience a plus), digital marketing platforms, and retail or inventory management software
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays during games and events
  • Proactive self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail

Attain Sports is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Individual base salary for this position is unique to each candidate and will be commensurate with experience, education, and skills, ranging from $75,000-$125,000. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
