About the role

Reporting to the VP of Brand Marketing, this creative leadership position will spearhead the building, leadership, and management of the Copywriting team, while also actively contributing to the development and execution of copy across marketing channels and initiatives.

The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio demonstrating a range of emotionally resonant copy and campaigns that break through and convert, a proven history of establishing and managing scalable copy practices and processes, and experience mentoring and managing a team. Experience adopting and applying AI tools to enhance, proof, and accelerate strategic copy development is essential to this role.

We’re seeking a Senior Manager, Copywriting to help fuel business growth through compelling copy, campaigns, and concepts that build emotional connections with our audience and deliver results.

What will you be doing?

Strategic Copywriting:

  • Create clear, consistent, and compelling copy for various marketing channels, including website, social media, emails, paid advertisements, and other marketing materials
  • Develop and implement effective copywriting strategies aligned with business objectives to drive brand awareness, conversion, and retention.
  • Develop copy, campaign and brand concepts that are strategically sound, audience-aware, and creatively fresh.
  • Ensure copy is aligned with brand positioning, creative strategy, and channel best practices.

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire the copy team to deliver high-quality work through thoughtful feedback, collaborative brainstorming, and regular check-ins.
  • Establish clear copywriting processes, documentation practices, and record-keeping standards that enable the team to work efficiently and consistently.
  • Work with brand and marketing leaders and stakeholders to ensure the process from brief, review/feedback to copy output is clear and understandable.

  • Build strong partnerships with agencies, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring smooth collaboration and alignment on deliverables.
  • Lead by example in upholding best practices for writing, editing and creative collaboration.

Collaboration and Consistency:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, design, and product, to ensure consistent messaging and brand voice.
  • Translate briefs from Product Marketing, Growth Marketing, and Customer Marketing into strategic and cohesive creative concepts.
  • Navigate the landscape of using copywriters, AI writing tools/platforms and outsourced agencies/vendors strategically to balance speed, scale and quality of copy, while maintaining brand consistency.
  • Present work confidently to internal stakeholders and clients, articulating creative rationale and guiding feedback conversations.

Editing and Quality Assurance:

  • Maintain brand consistency by developing and maintaining copy guidelines.
  • Oversee the editing and proofreading process to ensure accuracy, grammar, and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Review creative deliverables for tone, clarity, accuracy and brand alignment.

Process Optimization & Project Management:

  • In partnership with Creative Operations, establish effective processes and management system/s to plan, develop, and document all copy initiatives
  • Drive organizational excellence by ensuring project documentation, version control, and workflows are transparent and easy to follow across teams. 
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery without sacrificing quality.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for copywriting projects, managing timelines and resources in conjunction with Creative Ops.

Optimization and Analysis:

  • Track and analyze the performance of copy, providing data-driven recommendations for optimization.
  • Ensure all copy is optimized for SEO and meets industry-specific compliance requirements.

What are we looking for?

  • 8+ years of relevant copywriting experience at agencies, studios, or in-house, with a  minimum of 2+ years of direct management and mentorship of other copywriters. Previous in-house experience strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field preferred
  • Proven experience in strategic performance-focused copywriting across websites, digital advertising, email, social media, video and other brand and direct response channels, with a portfolio demonstrating creativity and versatility. 
  • The ability to translate complex problems into simple, focused narratives or campaign concepts that can travel across an organization. 
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with experience building processes, managing documentation, and keeping cross-functional teams aligned
  • Proficient in using content management systems and familiar with SEO best practices. 
  • Experience and desire to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, speed up workflows, and improve creative quality and output.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, adapting to changing priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-starter who can operate with limited guidance but knows when to seek help .
  • Positive attitude and proven team player.
  • Outstanding flexibility, adaptability and sense of accountability.
  • Portfolio links and/or relevant writing samples must be included for consideration.
