POSITION SUMMARY:
The Controller for Audax Private Debt will lead all accounting, financial reporting, and operational finance functions for the Private Debt platform. This role is responsible for managing fund accounting, portfolio-level financial controls, audit and tax processes, valuation governance, and financial operations across commingled funds, SMAs, and co-investment vehicles. The Controller will partner closely with Investment, Operations, Investor Relations, and Compliance teams to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality financial information.
This position requires strong technical accounting expertise, deep familiarity with private credit or alternative investment fund structures, and the ability to manage and develop a high-performing team in a fast-growing environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Reporting & Accounting Oversight

Lead the full accounting cycle for Private Debt funds, including quarterly and annual financial statement preparation under U.S. GAAP (investment company accounting).

Oversee NAV calculations, capital account maintenance, and income/expense allocations.

Manage consolidation and financial reporting across complex fund structures, feeders, blockers, and AIVs.

Review and approve management fee, carried interest, and incentive calculations.
Valuation & Portfolio Support

Coordinate quarterly valuation process with investment teams and third-party valuation firms.

Review portfolio company models, fair value estimates, and supporting documentation.

Ensure compliance with valuation policies and internal control frameworks.
Audit, Tax & Regulatory Coordination

Serve as primary contact for external auditors and tax advisors.

Oversee annual audit and tax filing processes for all private debt vehicles.

Manage regulatory filings, including Form PF, AIFMD reporting, and other applicable obligations.
Cash Management & Operations

Oversee treasury operations, including capital call/distribution processes and liquidity management.

Monitor financing arrangements, credit facilities, and intercompany cash flows.

Ensure strong internal controls and adherence to firm-wide policies.
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

Lead and mentor a team of fund accountants and senior accountants.

Partner with Investor Relations on client reporting, RFPs/DDQs, and investor inquiries.

Work with Operations, Legal, and Compliance to ensure financial and operational integrity across the platform.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- 12+ years relevant experience with investment management, Private Debt, or alternative investments (private credit and hedge funds)
- BA/BS degree; major in Accounting or Business Administration
- CPA/CFA/CFP/MBA preferred or equivalent experience
- Professional investment planning and tax planning preferred
- Experience with Investran, QuickBooks, Bill.com a plus
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize workload
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
LOCATION: Massachusetts 4 days/week in office. These in-office requirements may change based on the needs of the business.
For Massachusetts only: The base salary range for this position is $112,500 - $230,000. The base salary range represents the estimated low and high end for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation may vary and will be determined based on but not limited to, the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and Audax reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. An employee may also be eligible for annual discretionary incentive compensation based on performance.
