Since its founding in 2000, Audax Private Debt has partnered with leading private equity firms to help finance their purchase of middle market companies. We provide senior loans, unitranche loans and junior capital in addition to co-investments in equity securities. We source opportunities directly from financial sponsors throughout North America, investing in leveraged buyouts, acquisition financings and debt recapitalizations. We differentiate ourselves by taking a long-term view as it relates to new financings and portfolio decisions. We are based in New York City and have 50+ investment professionals. Our leadership team has been in place since inception and our managing directors average 25 years of investment experience.
Position Summary
The Associate will serve as an integral member of the Audax Private Debt investment team, supporting the underwriting of new first lien senior secured loan investments and the ongoing monitoring of portfolio companies across Audax Private Debt portfolios. This role offers broad exposure to the entire investment lifecycle, including transaction evaluation, due diligence, financial modeling, deal execution, portfolio management, and investment committee processes.
This position provides a unique opportunity to join a highly collaborative and entrepreneurial team while developing expertise across credit investing, financial analysis, industry research, risk assessment, debt financing, and portfolio management.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Underwriting & Due Diligence
- Analyze and evaluate investment opportunities supporting sponsor-backed leveraged buyout transactions.
- Conduct detailed industry, market, customer, and competitive analyses to assess investment opportunities.
- Build, review, and maintain complex financial models, including forecasting, leverage, liquidity, and downside analyses.
- Evaluate alternative capital structures and investment terms to determine appropriate risk-adjusted returns.
Deal Execution & Investment Committee Process
- Participate in all stages of transaction execution from initial screening through closing.
- Prepare investment memoranda, presentations, and supporting materials for investment committee review.
- Clearly communicate investment recommendations and credit views through written analyses and verbal presentations.
Portfolio Management & Monitoring
- Monitor a portfolio of existing investments, including financial performance, compliance, ratings activity, amendments, waivers, and market developments.
- Analyze amendment requests, refinancing opportunities, add-on investments, and secondary market opportunities.
- Monitor industry trends and market developments that could affect portfolio performance.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 2 - 4 years of experience in investment banking, direct lending, private credit, structured credit, leveraged finance, or a related field.
- Experience developing and utilizing detailed financial models.
- LBO/ sponsor transaction exposure
- Experience analyzing leveraged transactions and corporate credit risk preferred.
- Experience with credit committee exposure and investment memo preparation preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to assess the credit quality and risk profile of potential investments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation experience.
- Strong work ethic and demonstrated desire to learn and develop professionally.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Strong academic record.

For New York City only: The base salary range for this position is $110,000 - $150,000. The base salary range represents the estimated low and high end for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation may vary and will be determined based on but not limited to, the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and Audax reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. An employee may also be eligible for annual discretionary incentive compensation based on performance.
