Product Development Engineer

Summary

Reporting to the Director of Technology, this position manages technical projects related to the development of new elastomer product formulations, technical services, and product/margin improvements. Responsible for maintaining customer relations. Provides technical support where required throughout the plant location.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops new and modifies existing elastomer products to meet customer or market specific needs.
  • Supports production of sample formulations and compounds.
  • Participates with Operations and Engineering in the development of new products and processes to assure products can be produced on a commercial scale.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates physical, thermal, weatherable, paintable, and analytical test data. Organizes the data for presentation as required by customers (i.e. Certification Packages, Technical Data Sheets, etc.)
  • Authorizes the release of samples for customer evaluations.
  • Compiles and distributes periodic reviews; Updates project lists, monthly reports, and other reports.
  • Assures compliance with regulatory agencies as related to product formulations (i.e. UL, FDA, NAFTA, NSF, etc.).
  • Interfaces with vendors to identify and evaluate new or improved raw materials.
  • Participates in weekly meetings to prioritize and schedule the production of samples.
  • Attends periodic sales meetings as well as weekly and monthly teleconferences.
  • Participates in the development of procedures and work instructions to satisfy corporate compliance to defined management system requirements.
  • Performs other duties and assignments in support of projects including injection molding of test specimens, testing materials, and color evaluation support

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, material science, or chemistry
  • Minimum 2 years thermoplastics or polymers technical experience preferred
  • Polymer chemistry background, education or training preferred.
  • Skilled in the use of basic computer software, including spreadsheets.
  • Highly organized and detail orientated
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
