Product Development Technician

Summary
The Product Development Technician is responsible for the development of new thermoplastic elastomer formulations, and verification that requirements stipulated by the customer are met throughout the development process for the material requested as directed by the Technology Director.
Responsibility for Safety, Health & Environmental
- Individual is expected to perform job duties safely and in compliance with work instructions outlined in the Safety, Health & Emergency manual.
- Actively participate in Monthly Safety Meetings and perform audits as scheduled by the Safety Department.
Responsibility for Quality
- Individual is expected to perform job duties in compliance with defined management system requirements.
- Individual has responsibility for product quality and is authorized to stop production in order to correct quality problems.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Prepares samples and operates the laboratory extruder to develop new elastomer products. Works closely with the product development engineers to adjust formulations as required to meet customer and product requirements.
- Creates specimens for testing as defined on the Request for Analysis or Laboratory Request form. Conditions the molded specimens as prescribed by the Product Control Plan or Customer Specification. Performs final testing on the molded specimens according to the requirements specified on the Request for Analysis or Laboratory Request form
- Assists with the scale up of material from a laboratory extruder to the TPE sample line and manufacturing line.
- Assists in the maintenance and verification/calibration of all equipment in the department.
- Reviews Raw Material and Final Test Results and determines if additional testing is required
- Records Raw Material and Final Test Results in the PRIMOS computer database and documents the results on the Request for Analysis or Laboratory Request form, as appropriate.
- Reports Test Results for in-process testing in the PRIMOS database upon completion.
- Participates in Measurement System Analysis Studies (Gage R&R).
- Performs other duties and assignments as directed by supervisor.
Recommended Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required, with at least 2 years of quality, manufacturing, or laboratory experience preferred
- Training in the operation and theory of testing equipment and laboratory techniques is preferred.
- Skilled in the use of basic computer software, including word-processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and statistical programs.
