What You'll be Working on

We are seeking a motivated Performance & Reliability Architect to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining a site performance strategy for the company's multiple Shopify Plus e-commerce websites.  This individual will work with the development team to find performance gaps across our Shopify sites and apps.  The focus will be on both code execution as well as site technical performance in all browsers, strongly focusing on mobile. The Performance & Reliability Architect will work to develop and implement testing strategies, ensuring the reliability, performance, and functionality of our digital properties. The Performance & Reliability Architect  will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development, product, marketing and design, to ensure seamless execution and delivery of high-quality eCommerce sites, ensuring that all features perform at peak.

  • Develop, implement, and lead comprehensive performance processes, frameworks, and best practices for Shopify-based eCommerce websites
  • Work closely with development and product teams to ensure quality standards are met throughout the development lifecycle
  • Partner with the broader development team to maintain and optimize multiple shopify themes
  • Help maintain code quality, organization, and automatization were possible
  • Work with external vendors to assist in integrating new features with a focus on reusable and scalable code practice
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new website features without performance or user impact
  • Ensure compatibility with various browsers and devices

 

What You'll do

  • Lead the development of automated testing frameworks for performance testing
  • Work with the development team to simplify our code base, focus on code performance and best practice and technologies
  • Work with the QA/Site Reliability team on the  execution of both automated and manual tests, ensuring all eCommerce features are thoroughly tested for usability, compatibility, and performance
  • Develop internal automation applications to improve workflow and reduce busy work
  • Improve site performance with testing, monitoring, and automation tasks
  • Work with portfolio of brands to improve sites across all brands
  • Analyzing traffic to inform website maintenance and the effectiveness of marketing strategies and site optimizations
  • Continuously research, test and propose new Shopify apps or site features to improve revenue or efficiency based on data/metrics
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies

 

Must Haves 

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of web development best practices and experience working on a small tech team with many cross functional department leads.

  • 8+ years of experience in software performance, with at least 3 years in a senior level role
  • Extensive experience in testing and ensuring the quality and performance of Shopify-based eCommerce platforms, custom apps, themes, and third-party integrations
  • Strong knowledge of Shopify’s APIs, Liquid templating language, and eCommerce best practices
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for Site Speed, including test coverage
  • Continuously monitor testing outcomes, providing reports and insights to stakeholders on the overall quality of the platform
  • Drive continuous improvements to site performance, including LCP, CLS, INP and identify potential bottlenecks and propose solutions for improvement
  • Focus on the User Experience on mobile and with throttled connection speeds

An ideal candidate would also have some experience in the following areas.

  • 6+ years of experience with a JavaScript Framework, preferably Vue
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or related field (preferred)
  • Experience configuring and integrating e-commerce systems end to end
  • Can write clean and efficient code and review and audit team members code
    A quick thinker and a strong communicator
  • Not afraid to step outside of your comfort zone, can tackle projects independently
  • Know when to lean on your team, and when to step up
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, working with a hybrid/remote team

Primary Location Salary

$150,000 - $180,000
