Sales & Solution Engineer

Remote

At WooCommerce, we’re on a mission to democratize commerce. Millions of merchants around the world build their businesses with our open-source platform—and we’re scaling how we support them.  WooCommerce already powers nearly 10% of all websites on the web.  It’s instantly available to the WordPress hosting platform, which powers over 40% of the web today.

As one of the fastest growing areas of Automattic, we’re expanding.  We’re looking for an experienced Sales & Solutions Engineer to join our Sales and Customer Success team and work directly with Sales Leadership. This role is critical to building on our momentum, driving new lands of high value merchants ($1M+ TPV), and shaping how we leverage the strengths of our product and technical expertise to get the technical win in the field.  Additionally, this role will be working as needed with our Customer Success team to help retain and expand our existing high value merchant customers.

WooCommerce’s Sales & Solutions Engineering team is a charismatic, highly-respected group of technologists who are collaborative, visible, influential, and impactful.  If you are a top performer, this is a chance to plug into a product with real market pull and help build and scale a modern, AI-augmented, technical sales-led growth motion. You’ll work complex deals with Account Executive partners, win marquee logos, and create expansion playbooks that others will follow.  Bring your technical solutioning expertise, your sales and business acumen, your curiosity, and your conviction. We will back you with a platform merchants love, a team that plays to win, and the tools to make it happen.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with our sales account team to demonstrate WooCommerce’s value and technical capabilities to qualify and close customers.
  • Own the technical win: lead workshops, proofs of concept, and pilots; define mutual action plans; de-risk integrations; and document clear decision criteria.
  • Accelerate onboarding and expansion by supporting Customer Success on high-value implementations, conducting architecture reviews, and identifying expansion/optimization opportunities.
  • Forecast with discipline: maintain CRM hygiene for technical stages, risks, and next steps; contribute to deal reviews with crisp red/yellow/green status.
  • Collaborate across departments to advance the technical dynamics of our GTM strategy and evolve how we position WooCommerce in an agentic commerce world—one where open APIs, extensibility, and data ownership enable AI agents to automate discovery, recommendation, and purchase flows.
  • Align closely with the product organization to ensure our value proposition is fully represented and provide revenue-mapped customer feedback to evolve our products and services offerings further.
  • Demonstrate and communicate the value and advantages of our platform through ROI analysis, compelling product demos, and on-site (or remote) technical presentations to prospective or current clients, conveying the full strategic benefits of our platform.
  • Partner with our account executives to gain insight into our customers’ requirements and tailor our solutions to serve their business objectives best.
  • Collaborate with the sales leadership team to expedite the onboarding of Account Executive team members, provide insights to the sales team through sales and domain training, and offer direct feedback on customer lifecycle management and sales processes.
  • Raise the bar internally: build repeatable demos, reference implementations, and playbooks; enable AEs/CS on positioning, objection handling, and competitive differentiation.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of midmarket or enterprise B2B sales engineering or solution architecture experience, driving technical wins with individual or team quota-carrying experience in Ecommerce, PaaS/SaaS, or platform selling, with consistent attainment against annual targets.
  • Success co-selling with AEs and collaborating with CS, Professional Services, Product, and Partnerships to land/expand complex accounts.
  • Excellence in discovery and storytelling: you simplify complex trade-offs, whiteboard clearly, and tailor demos to executive, commercial, and technical stakeholders.
  • Strong command of consultative and value-based selling skills, including discovery, total cost of ownership, and return on investment analysis.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise software, IT landscapes, and content management systems.
  • Strong understanding of AI-driven and agentic commerce trends, and how data, APIs, and extensibility support automation, personalization, and AI-assisted buyer experiences.
  • Fluency across web architectures (REST APIs, webhooks, SSO, caching/CDN, performance), payments (auths, chargebacks, settlement, reconciliation), and data/privacy fundamentals.
  • Developer-level literacy (you can read code samples, use Postman, and speak in API), even if you’re not shipping production code.
  • Comfortable in a high-growth, builder environment. You can operate with imperfect data, roll up your sleeves, and still deliver clean execution to create impact.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, written and verbal, with the ability to simplify technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • High integrity, ownership, and a team mindset. You share wins, ask for help early, and put the merchant outcome first.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams as needed for resources, support, and feedback.
  • Team player with a winner’s mentality, combined with excellent interpersonal skills and leadership presence.
  • Highly technical and curious to know, grow, and learn more.  Self-motivated with a drive to achieve revenue and growth targets.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in ecommerce, website development, open source content management systems, payments, fintech, marketplaces, or adjacent platform ecosystems.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML-enabled commerce (recommendation engines, autonomous agents, personalization APIs, or conversational commerce flows).
  • Familiarity with payments concepts, including TPV, authorization rates, chargebacks, and cost of acceptance, or the curiosity to learn quickly.
  • Prior work enabling or managing agency/SI partners; comfort evaluating build/buy/partner trade-offs.
  • Familiarity with compliance contexts (PCI, SOC 2, ISO 27001), SCA/PSD2, and multi-region tax/settlement complexity.
  • Previous demonstrated success in fast-growing organizations where product-led and sales-led growth coexist, including building or refining technical selling playbooks.
  • Proficiency with modern sales stacks—for example, CRM, demo automation, and value-selling tools.
  • Formal training in a sales methodology such as MEDDPICC, Command of the Message, Challenger, or SPIN.
  • A compelling cover letter telling us why you're the right person for the job and why Automattic is the place for you.

As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
