Senior Industrial Designer

Avegant is seeking an Senior Industrial Designer to contribute to their cutting-edge smart eyewear technology. The position will be filled by a highly motivated individual with 5-10 years of experience in a design and production environment.  This position will be responsible for designing prototype eyewear for our display technology. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a revolutionary technology in a fast-growing field. This position will work closely across our mechanical engineering, electrical and business teams. This position reports to the Director of Design.

Annual salary in the range of $140,000-170,000 based on experience, stock options, full medical, dental, vision benefits, 401k matching, unlimited PTO, office snacks, and team lunches. The role is an in-office role, at our dog-friendly office located in downtown San Mateo, CA, within walking distance of Caltrain.

 Responsibilities:

• Work with multiple stakeholders to define project requirements.
• Generate concepts with an understanding of the user / customer needs.
• Ability to work with very tight size, weight, and schedule requirements.
• Production quality surface modeling.
• Part modeling for low to medium volume prototypes.
• Assemble, tear down, and debug electro-mechanical prototypes.
• Produce design documentation packages for vendors including technical and marketing documents, 2D manufacturing drawings, and assembly instructions (SOP).
• Travel overseas.

Qualifications:

• Willingness to try new solutions and share challenges and roadblocks 
• A “how can I help” mindset
• Curiosity, humility 
• 5-10 years of experience or equivalent in design of electro-mechanical or wearable products.
• Proficiency with using 3D modeling and surfacing with SolidWorks.
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent (Affinity, Krita) software.
• Ability to communicate ideas through sketches and presentations.
• Proficiency with ergonomic parameters, anthropometric databases.
