VP of Software Engineering

Role Overview 

AvidXchange is on the lookout for a VP of Software Engineering to significantly contribute to the growth and transformation of our Pay platform. The VP will be responsible for all Product Development, deployment, and optimization initiatives for AvidXchange. This leader will collaborate with the Product Operations, Customer Care, and Platform Engineering leaders. The role requires strategic technical leadership, enablement, and growth of multiple talented software engineering teams.  

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of payment systems, a strong familiarity with AI, and a proven record in leading high-performing engineering teams

Ideally, this individual will be based in Charlotte, NC but we're flexible for the right candidate.

What you’ll do: 

  • Develop and execute a robust technology strategy for transforming and scaling AvidXchange’s Pay platform and solutions
  • Collaborate with Executive Leaders and their teams to define and prioritize Pay transformation initiatives that align with company goals
  • Responsible for Product development, software quality, scalability, and performance of the AvidXchange Payment Platform
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team focused on payment transformation
  • Establish clear performance goals for all key roles within the Pay Engineering team
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the engineering department
  • Provide technical guidance and career development opportunities to team members
  • Drive the adoption of best practices in software development, testing, and deployment, with a focus on on-time delivery, reliability, performance, and security.
  • Adopt a lean agile approach focusing on step-by-step increase of business value
  • Find ways to streamline payment procedures, enhance decision-making, and elevate the customer experience
  • Leverage AI to introduce cutting-edge solutions and improve operational efficiencies
  • Manage the Engineering budget effectively to meet AvidPay’s software portfolio profit & loss goals

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field and a minimum of 13 years prior relevant experience
  • Record of providing customer value through product development in a complex cross-functional environment
  • Utilize data-driven insights to inform decision-making, optimize processes, and measure the impact of engineering efforts
  • Innovative mindset to problem solving
  • Experience leading in an agile environment across multiple scrum teams
  • Evidence of Executive level influence and communication to drive initiatives forward and remove impediments
  • Expertise in enterprise transformational technical strategies
  • Experience with AI, machine learning, API-driven architecture, microservices, cloud computing, and DevOps practices
  • Technical Expertise in using at least one of the enterprise tools and platforms such as .NET, Java, NoSQL, Oracle, Mongo, React, C++, Python,
  • Strong knowledge of security, compliance, and regulatory requirements in the Payments industries

What we’d love to see:

  • Typically, 10+ years of software engineering leadership experience.
  • Deep understanding of FinTech/Payment processing including ACH, Virtual Card as well as emerging Payment technologies

Travel Requirements

If not located in Charlotte, travel requirements up to 50%
