Security Engineer I

Job Overview:

The Security Engineer I will assist in the design, implementation, and monitoring of security solutions to protect AvidXchange’s data and assets from cyber threats.  This is accomplished through cross-functional planning, requirements gathering, and agile delivery. Working closely with Architecture, Security Operations, Technology Operations, Software Engineering, and the business, this role will drive adherence to technology and security standards, identify and solve for risks, provide security consulting, and evangelize secure technology solutions. 

What we're looking for: 

  • Maintain and troubleshoot issues with security technologies to ensure high availability, effectiveness, and adherence to operational standards. 

  • Design, implement, migrate, and maintain email security solutions.  Configuration, setup, and migrations of Email Gateway, DKIM, DMARC, SPF. 

  • Experience with endpoint tools and capabilities such as Crowdstrike, Sentinelone, Windows Defender, local firewalls, and configuration management. 

  • Participate in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation amongst the Security team to ensure tool and system availability. 

  • Work closely with development and operations teams to integrate security into the DevOps process, automating security measures and ensuring security practices are an integral part of the software development lifecycle. 

  • Maintain security documentation and contribute to the definition of security standards. 

  • Design, build, and maintain security tools, scripts, and automation solutions to support the needs of the Security Operations team. These tools should aid in threat detection, incident response, log analysis, and security monitoring. 

  • Work closely with the Security Operations team to understand their requirements, challenges, and operational needs. Implement solutions that streamline their workflows and enhance the team's efficiency in handling security incidents. 

  • Collaborate with the Security Architecture and Governance & Compliance teams to ensure that security tools and capabilities align with the organization's overall security architecture. 

  • Ensure seamless integration with existing security systems and processes. 

  • Stay abreast of the latest security trends, technologies, and best practices. Continuously improve existing security tooling and capabilities to address emerging threats. 

 

What we're looking for:

  • 3+ years of experience deploying, supporting, and analyzing technology solutions or cyber security systems and incidents. 

  • In-depth knowledge of security technologies, protocols, and methodologies, including encryption, authentication, access control, and network security. 

  • Strong understanding of cloud security best practices, especially in AWS/Azure/GCP environments. 

  • Hands-on experience with security tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, DLP, vulnerability scanners, etc. 

  • Strong technical aptitude and interest in Cyber Security 

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams. 

  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with others in a team environment. 

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically in high-pressure situations. 

  • Ability to operate with autonomy, driving solutions with little input  

  • Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 3 years of prior relevant experience. 

  • Proven experience as a Security Engineer or similar role, with a focus on developing security tools and maintaining compliance with PCI, SOX, and NIST standards. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in cyber security, Information Systems or Computer Science 

  • Security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, GSEC, CYSA+, GCIH, CEH, Azure Security Engineer or other 

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and experience integrating security into CI/CD pipelines. 

  • Experience with PCI, SOX, SOC I, or SOC II compliance.
