About Us
Avnos believes solving the water/energy resource equation is the most direct path to scaling direct air capture of carbon dioxide economically, responsibly, and sustainably. This is why we integrate water at the heart of our technology. This enables broad deployment, as our system produces water as it captures CO2. As a result, our approach minimizes energy consumption, enhancing cost-effectiveness and climate impact.
We are a driven team of scientists, engineers and technical operators working together to solve one of the most fascinating and impactful problems the world has to solve: removing legacy carbon dioxide emissions in service of cooling the planet. We know that innovation requires creativity and courage and we give our people ownership to follow their curiosity to a solution. We work fast and collaboratively, learning from each other as we create answers to climate’s most pressing questions. Avnos is a place where you can see the impact of your work in the real world.
At Avnos, we believe in the power of diversity and inclusion to drive innovation and success. Our culture is fueled by individuals from various backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives coming together to make a meaningful impact. We welcome applicants from all walks of life, regardless of race, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, or any other dimension of diversity. Join us in our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered to contribute to our collective mission. Your unique talents and perspectives are not just welcomed; they are essential to our success.
Apply today and be a part of a team that is dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the world.
Role
As an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer at Avnos, you will spearhead critical design for manufacturing (DFM) initiatives that directly impact our cost reduction strategy and production efficiency.
This hands-on role will be focused on equal parts manufacturing CAD modelling, process design, and contract manufacturing ramp up and alpha validation. It will be focused on documentation of early-stage process steps and MES setup with the goal of making early-stage contract manufacturing transferable to inhouse installed capacity factories at a later date. You will map and create strategic DFM plans to achieve aggressive cost targets and execute these tactical plans every day. You'll report to our Senior VP of Manufacturing and Supply Chain and be a key member of our small and dynamic manufacturing taskforce, tackling high-priority challenges that require immediate solutions.
Your work will directly contribute to scaling our direct air capture machines globally, making a meaningful impact on climate technology deployment. You will fly in/fly out of all locations where the work is happening. You are equally comfortable working at supplier sites, contract manufacturing sites, customer sites and inhouse manufacturing sites designing and turning screws to ship product, every day. You will obsess on cost down initiatives and simplification in pursuit of customer delight.
You will:
- Collaborate with R&D, Product Engineering, Projects Team and Supply Chain teams to ensure manufacturability of components and systems, focusing on quality, efficiency, and obsession on ownership of cost optimization through design for manufacturing.
- Own advanced manufacturing techniques, including automation, robotics, bulk, batch and pulsed and single piece manufacturing technologies and processes with a detailed eye to avoid manufacturing inertia both for inhouse manufacturing and 3rd party contract manufacturing.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by implementing lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, and other industry-leading methodologies and documenting ‘Factory as a Product’ to enable rapid deployment of globally distributed installed capacity.
- Own the launch and run off of new manufacturing lines and ensure seamless scaling from prototype to full-scale production at both in-house and contract manufacturing sites often running multiple sites concurrently to phase in lower cost options.
- Support capital expenditure planning and manage budgets for new capital investments into installed capacity and plant upgrades.
- Travel 15-25% to visit suppliers and manufacturing sites and 15-25% to customer ops sites. Customer field ops and distributed manufacturing sites are global. Up to 50% travel.
You have:
- 8+ years of experience in emerging tech hardware manufacturing as a hands-on manufacturing engineer or hands on product design engineer or advanced manufacturing technician building and launching products to market.
- Expert in multiple CAD systems (SolidWorks, NX etc.) and PLM systems (Windchill, Enovia, Teamcenter etc.) and understand the stage appropriate data flow that allows high change velocity manufacturing to thrive.
- Experience in prototype manufacturing and high-volume manufacturing environments (you understand they are not the same but are a journey), preferably in large, containerized products such as HVAC or BESS systems in pulsed line manufacturing environments.
What makes you stand out:
- You proactively address challenges wherever they arise—whether at supplier facilities, customer sites, or in-house manufacturing operations. Location-agnostic in your pursuit of efficiency, you excel at hands-on, in-field problem-solving by turning screws, driving the forklift and solving issues hands on to eliminate inefficiencies at their source.
- You are equally comfortable CAD modeling cost optimized design changes as you are building real first of a kind hardware at the pilot production line turning screws – you learn through doing and are confident in updating the CAD models and validation plans and working hand in hand with the Product and R&D teams to flow design changes back into the next iteration
You share our values:
- Safety: Feedback and candor are encouraged and met with curiosity regardless of title. In all of our work locations, we show courage to speak up, own problems along with solutions, focus on task conflict (not personal conflict), and care for each other.
- Ownership: Empowerment, while bringing people along through clear, crisp, early communication; follow through; we take full accountability; showing up even (especially) when it is hard; integrity; pride in one’s work and pride in our work.
- Teamwork: Proactive collaboration, knowing we are greater than the sum of our parts; bringing each other along in our language, decisions, and tradeoffs so teammates are equipped to partner with us; thoughtful disagreement and discourse and support each other to identify blind spots and make wise decisions; generosity with our gratitude and recognition of others.
- Growth Mindset: New ideas require creativity and risk taking, we embrace failure as a means to learn. We tolerate the discomfort of being a beginner in an industry that is solving the unsolved. Feedback is a vote of confidence and an offer of support to develop our ideas into great work.
- Achievement: Bias for action while maintaining the highest standards. We practice prioritization, discipline, and focus in the service of achieving our goals and creating a lasting impact.
