Software Engineer

Awetomaton is seeking a Software Engineer to support existing customers. In this role, you will build services, APIs, UI components, and internal tools that expose cost and usage data to customers, business stakeholders, and companion systems. You will work with Data and Analytics Engineers to turn cost models and data pipelines into true software products capable of automated delivery and exploration of customer billing information. The ideal candidate will have a BS degree or higher in engineering or related field and have 3+ years of experience.

This position can be performed out of St. Louis, MO (preferred) or Dayton, OH. Active Top Secret clearance desired, but sponsorship available for exceptional candidates. We are looking for a candidate to start in the mid- May 2026 timeframe.

Criteria for success

• Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form with peers & decision makers
• Demonstrate initiative when faced with limited guidance or ambiguous requirements
• Integrate cost visibility into platform consoles and customer-facing portals
• Implement billing workflows (billing cycles, audit logs, versioning) 
• Ensure reliability, observability, and security of cost accounting and billing services 

Required Experience and Skills

• Strong backend engineering experience (Python, Go, Java, Node)
• Experience building APIs and microservices
• Familiarity with AWS services (API Gateway, Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB)
• Familiarity with platform management concepts including containerization and Kubernetes
• Understanding of authentication/authorization and multi‑tenant systems

Desired Education and Experience

• MS in Computer Science, Engineering or related field  

• Experience with frontend frameworks (React) and building user-facing interfaces
• Experience building dashboards, charts, or self-service reporting tools
• Familiarity with cost, billing, or metering systems in SaaS or cloud environments
• Experience integrating backend services with platform consoles or customer portals
